Hi all, love this site!!!:thumbsup2

My family(DH dd13 dd9 ds7) and I are not new to Disney world, but this year we decided to try something new and stay in the cabins at FW. This is also our first January trip. We will be taking our 4th family trip to WDW the week of January 21st  Since the parks aren't open as long this time of year and with the changes to the dining plan and the menus in the last few years, we thought it would be nice to save a few bucks(to put toward more souvenirs of course) and eat breakfast and a late dinner in at the cabin. I guess my first question is were is the best place to do some grocery shopping before you get on property?
We are going to be spending our days in the parks everyday until close so I'd rather not have to get a golf cart. How much time do we need to plan for getting to the parks? It is my personal goal to be there when each park opens. I am hoping since everything closes early, I'll actually make it this time.
This site is great and you campers seem like a fun bunch. Thanks in advance for your help :goodvibes

Well let me be the first of what I am sure is going to be many and say WELCOME. I just found this place a couple of weeks ago, and I love it too, they have made me feel welcome from the start.

As far as the groceries, I have read alot of threads where people order them online before they leave and have them delivered. But we always visit one of the dozens of publix stores that are everywhere outside of wdw. We usually go to the second one on 429 headed out of town North I think. It is usually less crowded and better stocked.

Getting to the parks is easy... figuring out how long it will take isn't sometimes. The internal buses in the campground run from one end to the other, and then you can take buses the the parks or take the boat from the marina. The problem comes with the timing. There were days that we would walk to the orange bus stop, and almost step right on... then get to the outpost bus stop and that bus would be waiting there. We would be at a park in 20-30 minutes tops ....... then there were the days you would get to the orange stop just as the bus left.... wait 30 minutes for the next one... get to the outpost and see you next bus pulling out  those days it could be an hour or more. The boat to the magic kingdom seemed pretty good. plus it is a lot more fun than the bus imho

I hope this helps a little and I am sure some of the more experienced diss ers will give you more info

Enjoy

WELCOME :goodvibes

If you look in the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum I have a post to not only Goodings which is the closest albeit not the cheapest, a Publix that is fairly close and two Walmart SuperCenters.

Ahhh, Publix has the best southern sweet tea from the deli. The lemonade is pretty good too. Of course I don't know if they have the lemonade at this time of year. We drank about 2 gallons of tea and 1 gallon of lemonade every day.

:welcome: You are going to love the cabins and the Fort. We wouldn't stay any place else in fact we will be back to FW in a cabin on Jan 22,the same time you will be there. Just look for two senior citizens in Mickey shirts or a cabin with a big lime green Mickey head in the front window. If we can help just ask. Have a great time at the Fort.:cheer2:

We usually go to one of the Super Walmarts because it's a novelty to us. But there is a nice store just past the crossroads shopping center (where Goodings is). I think it's a Publix. Skip Goodings. It's not worth it.

You do need to leave a lot of time in the morning, over an hour to be safe if you want to get there at opening. As mentioned, you can have problems with the frequency if you just miss one.

Goodings doesn't compare to Publix I still wonder why they put carpet in a grocery store!!!

Thanks for all the replies. :goodvibes I actually know were those stores are. DH says that is a sign we have been to WDW one to many times, silly man.:rolleyes1 I was thinking and hour for travel time to the parks. I can live with that. I am so excited about this trip. We have stayed at the Poly, the Dolphin and the Contemporary. I am actually looking forward to this trip the most. A little more laid back, with a lot more coffee in the morning.

If you are a cookie person like I am, be sure to pick up some of the frosted sugar cookies at Publix - they are worth the trip to Florida alone.

Welcome! I have posted to you a time or two on different threads! I, too, am a WDW Resort junkie, but there is just something extra special about the fort~maybe it is all these wonderful campers... ?

Plus, having your own coffee in the a.m. is much nicer than that Nescafe stuff they have at Disney~what is up with that? It is not always practical to travel to the Poly for some Kona!

Have a wonderful trip and in the mean time, enjoy this group of amazing people! You will find none finer :goodvibes !

We will be arriving the Saturday after you get there. January is a great time to go. One thing to remember about the busses and the boats is there will almost always be hardly anyone else waiting if you go early. It just isn't crowded enough at that time of day.

We went Jan. '06 and we always were at the parks before opening. Busses were always quick and at the most 25% full.

Boy I couldn't agree more about the coffee, Disney coffee is just flat out nasty. Too thick I put three creams in a cup and its still black LOL
