I'm so confused on renting through a DVC Member?

How do I find out how many points I need for the place and time I'm thinking of?

I'm not a member so how does the whole process work? does the member i buy the points from call and reserve room? my name or theirs?..etc...

Before we bought we rented. I looked up the number of points I needed using the points chart found on these boards. I then posted exactly what I needed ( 247 pts for a 2bdrm @ BCV for dates I wanted). The member makes the reservation in your name and should mail you the conformation letter and a signed agreement. Just be careful because the member retains control of the reservation and could cancel it anytime. I have never heard of a member doing this, but better to be safe than sorry. Most want a deposit when reservation is made and the balance due 60 or 90 days before your trip. Good luck.

Check the FAQs on the Rent/Trade Board. That should give you some good info to start with. Just remember, the DVC member controls the reservation at all times until you check into the resort.
