Hi all,

I am seriously new to this site and haven't been to Disney in 14 years!! We had gone for our honeymoon, but now will be taking our 5 year old in the Spring.

Can anybody put me in the direction of where to get the best deal for a package? Should I book separately myself (air, hotel, park) or go for a travel agent and trust everything in their hands?

I don't have a clue as to where to start. I've been reading some boards here and there, but kind of need a direction to take.

We are planning on staying at ASMovies, as my son has loved Buzz and Woody for years and this trip is all about that instead of comfort, noise level, etc. Just seeing the excitement in his eyes when seeing them will make up for those things.

Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks!

there is a code out right now - I don't think I can put it here - so email or send me pm with your email address.

I would book my own.

this site can be very helpful.

there is a transportation forum to help you with getting a good deal on airlines.

Oh by the way you need to hurray - if you want the discount it from now til Dec 25 - but it must be booked by Oct 10.

We need a little more info to give you the best information.

How many in your party?

How many days are you staying?

Approxiately when are you going?

These will all make a big difference in what to book.

Ooops, sorry! There are just the 3 of us---hubby, son (5) and myself.

We are planning a trip in mid April I guess. Something before school is out and it gets too too hot.

We would like to stay 8-9 days.

So I guess the codes that are out now we couldn't use, right? But where do you find these codes at? Is it too early for codes for April?

We went to a local travel show this past weekend and I always feel so overwhelmed---first because I have a gut feeling that it is cheaper to just book yourself. But, sometimes I feel that it just might be easier if it's all done for me. But it's not like I don't have the time to do this myself, I am a stay at home mom.

I also am a Disney Visa Cardholder and have like 350 points saved up. Has anyone used their points and did they have any problems doing so?

Thanks again for your responses. I look forward to learning and reading more.

The main problem that you will face is getting discounts with the time you have chosen.

If you start your vacation before Apr 17 you will fall into peak season and the rates are considerably higher. Apr17 would put you into the regular season and the rates are better.

Check out mousesavers.com it shows rack rates, season changes, and discount codes. You can look up the rates from 2004 and that will give you an idea of what to expect to pay at each resort (assuming you get an AP rate, that is not guaranteed).

Also, check out allearsnet.com for help also. There is an AP calculator that will help you decide if an AP will bring you savings.

Good luck!

Buy the book "The Unofficial Guide to Disney". It has TONS of information in it about when to go (taking into consideration weather, crowds, hotel rates), rankings and detailed descriptions of each Disney hotel, Disney restaurant, and descriptions of each ride at each theme park.

The best thing about this book is that the authors are NOT affliated with Disney. Therefore, they are brutally honest and tell you exactly where the best deals--and ripoffs--are. If a hotel or restaurant stinks, they'll say so.

It is so comprehensive you won't need a travel agent--all the info is right there in the book. I would read the book completely before deciding where to stay or when to go. They just put out a new 2004 edition. Have fun planning!

Ok, I just spent 1/2 hour trying to figure out what AP stands for---can someone fill me in please?

Sorry for the question, but I just can't seem to find the answer.

Thanks.

I used my points from my Disney Visa Card on our vacation last month. It is very easy to do. There is a phone # on your statement for you to call to get your Disney Visa Rewards points. They will send you a card that looks like a credit card in the mail. It takes about 2 weeks (sometimes less) to get the card in the mail, so make sure that you order it early enough so that you have it when you leave for Disney. Once you have the card, you can transfer any new points that you earn on to the card that you have. So, if you order it today and put all of your points on it, you can then call the Disney Visa Rewards # right before you leave for vacation and have any points you accumulate from now until you go to WDW transferred onto the card. The card can be used all over WDW, at restaurants, gift shops, etc.. If you are staying on property, you can use the card at the front desk of your hotel to pay for your room or any charges you put on your room. You do not have to show any ID to use the card, so if you lose it, anyone can use your card, so treat it like a credit card and keep it safe.

As for using a travel agent vs. planning your vacation on your own: you will find many people on these boards that swear by using a travel agent and many that do it themselves. Using a travel agent should not cost you any more $ than doing it yourself. Some will even watch for discount codes for you and apply them to your reservation to save you $ automatically. If you do it yourself, I recommend getting a good Disney travel book to start with. Planning can be the key to having a wonderful WDW vacation. There is so much to so and do there and a good WDW travel book lays it all out for you to see and understand. I love PassPorter Walt Disney World, by Jennifer Watson Marx and Dave Marx. They are not affiliated with Disney. I would also highly recommend using the websites that other posters gave - allearsnet.com and mousesavers.com . These sites post discount codes as soon as they are available. You can go ahead and book your room now even if there isn't a code available yet because you can have a code applied to your reservation later on if one becomes available. If you have a AAA card, you can try and use that for a discount when you book. Then, check those two websites and this board frequently to see if any new discount codes have come out. You may start to see posts from other members who are waiting for codes to come out for the same time you are going. That is usually a sign that codes should be coming soon. It seems to be very important to call Disney as soon as a code becomes available to have it applied to your reservation because there are only a certain # of rooms available at the special rate with the code. When codes are released, expect to have long wait times on the phone with WDW reservations because everyone else is calling to get the code applied to their ressie too! Disney offers package deals which include airfare, but I always seem to get better prices when I book my airfare myself. Depending on what type of admission tickets you want, you can order them in advance and save $. There are packages that WDW offers that include length of stay passes. A good WDW travel book will give you all the info you need on this and will give you current prices on tickets so you can add things up to find out how you want to do things. If you have any questions along the way, post them here. There are a lot of people who can answer your questions and give you tips. For me, planning is half the fun of a WDW vacation. Have a great time!

Thanks.

AP stands for annual pass, which is an annual pass ticket for admission to the WDW parks. AP holders get special discounts at WDW. Some people buy an AP to get good room rates at disney resorts.

Thank you SO SO much for taking your time to respond. Some great information in your post (and thanks for the AP explanation too). :)

As they have said previously read the books. for people who go somewhat reguarly we still learn new things all the time. We also have a great travel agent who takes care of us. You need to get one who will work with you. If a deal comes up she rebooks us and gets the lower price the three times we have used her. She is also getting us the best ailrines and sometimes it is cheaper to buy "ala carte". Enjoy and get reading!! hope you have fun:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc   :yo-yo: :yo-yo:
