Hi  I've just joined this forum. We went to DLP last January, with our 3 kids expecting to hate every minute of it but we were hooked!!! We've decided to go again next year, the prices are now available so we are ready to book, just need to decide which hotel........this is where I need your help.

Last time we stayed at the Santa Fe as it was a last minute thing and all that was left, this time we have the full monty of choice  but I'm :confused3

Newport Bay is out as the pool is closed when we want to go. So I'm dithering between the Sequoia Lodge (Montana room) and the Hotel NY. According to the info on here you can't have the Good morning fantasyland breakfast if you stay at the NY, is that right? Other than that is there anything else that should sway my decision, kids are 7,5 and 2 so will be 2+2 and a cot, last year we will all fit in a Disney hotel room, so got to make the most of it!! We are going for 4 nights so want to be comfy.

Hi, I've not stayed at HNY so I can't comment other than that it looks really lovely! We stayed at Sequoia Lodge in November last year, and I see you're planning on a winter stay which is perfect in Sequoia Lodge. The Redwood lounge has this huge open stone fire and is really cosy place to have a hot chocolate to warm you up! The rooms were comfy, and the hotel had a nice atmosphere with Christmas decs up - I don't know if you're planning on catching Christmas. The HNY however has a lovely ice skating rink outside, although I've heard a nasty rumour that this is changing, and is closer to the parks and Disney Village.

I'm sure someone will be along to confirm, and talk about HNY. I don't really think you can go wrong in any of the Disney Hotels.

Edited to add: if you're going at a quiet time, the Fantasyland breakfast just isn't very important in my view, by the time you've eaten, you don't really get much extra time - maybe one ride.

Hello Amanda and welcome to the DIS !

No, you can't have the GMF breakfast if you're are staying at the New York, but you can expect breakfast to be less crowded there, than at the Sequoia Lodge, or you could even have breakfast delivered to your room for a 10 euros supplement.

Rooms and bathrooms are a bit bigger at the HNY, though SL does have the advantage of having the wash basin outside of the bathroom - which can be useful at times.

The HNY has room service, while SL doesn't - it might be useful with three young children.

If you stay at the HNY you get three anyride/anytime FastPasses per person.

Walking distance to the park is pretty similar though, obviously the HNY is that bit more handy.

Okay, yes, I like the New York!!! But if you prefer the look and atmosphere of Sequoia Lodge, then I'm sure you will find it has everything you need - it's a very nice hotel.

Oh no!! What have you heard?

Hi I have stayed at at the HNY twice and I think it is a fantastic hotel.
The location is good and I love the astmosphere.
The rooms are a good size and comfy plus you get room service and a min bar.
The hotel is smaller than SL so the queues for the charaters are not as long,
We went when it was very busy and found that breakfast was never busy so that may be why there is no good morning fantasy land breakfast. The breakfast is very good and when we went in december there was scambled eggs and sausages as well.

you don't need to be staying at the HNY to use the rink just at a disney hotel.

however as you plan to use the pool I would think the pool at SL does look more child friendly. , the pool at HNY does seem better suited for adults as is vey deep with no shallow part however my dd was fine in the jaczzuzi pool this may not be ideal for the older children.

Thanks all. Yes, the pool is something we would definately be looking at using. We are going in January for 5 days and I think the pool would be a nice thing to do to chill out of an evening!! And we will have a Disney free day one day, maybe go into Paris on the train, then come back and swim. I am leaning towards the SL really, Pricewise there is little in it, I just like the idea of getting into the park before it opens for breakfast a couple of days, and I'm not sure about the whole "business like" feel of the NY. The SL looks more family orientated, and if you can use the rink anyway (if its there -what's this rumour?), I think it's our best option.

Then again......will we really want to be going in the pool in January? And the room service thing sounds like a good idea. And it's only an extra £50 for us to upgrade to the NY. And as I said before it will be the last time we can fit into a DLP hotel, so maybe we should go for the luxury.......aaaaargh!!!! I hate making decisions!!!

well I know that when we went in december that going in the pool would be the last thing we'd want to do, we did not use the room service how the mini bar was handy for when dd was a sleep as we could have a drink.

anyway good luck with your planning.

Thank you :-) Last night my DH woke me up to tell me he is "really excited about going back to Disneyland" :rotfl: He's 39!!! Well, it has been 4 months since we got back, I can barely remember that song now, how does it go? Oh yes......"It's a small world after all.............."

Sorry, sorry, sorry - I read about a go kart track, but obviously that's for the summer months when I think about it. I plead severe jet-lag & exhaustion after returning from WDW last week!

No problem - I hoped that was what you meant! Phew!!! :)

Sweetiepie - bear in mind that the pool is in a separate building to the main hotel. So if you do feel like swimming in January :cold: remember to wrap up warm - especially for the journey back.

A spouse that says things like that should definitely be cherished!!! :teeth:

Thanks, I didn't realise about the pool being in a different block. I'm really dithering now LOL! I just have no idea what to do.....help!!!! Even the Newport Bay comes back into play if I accept that the whole pool thing is not going to be a great idea in the depths of Winter!!

The SL appeals because it looks warm and cosy LOLOL and I know how damn cold it was this year!! Like the idea of the log fire and the hot chocolate :-D And that pool looks really nice, on the vague offchance we might go in it.

The Newport Bay looks really attractive from the outside, which probably isn't the best way to choose, but I must be really shallow as it appeals to me. Are the rooms better than the SL? Mind you, all we did at the Santa Fe was sleep so I guess it's not a huge issue.

The NY looks fab too, but I'm slightly put off the the "businessmen on conference" feel I get from reading reports about it, not sure that we would fit in with our 3 little ones IYKWIM? But there's the snob factor of not having to get on the Santa Fe bus :lmao: that has to be taken into account (God it was awful, even in January, a real bunfight to get on the bus)

I think that I shall have to make DH decide. Then blame him if it all goes horribly wrong .

Rooms at the Newport Bay are exactly the same size and layout as SL. The main difference is the decor, of course, and it's also a further walk to the parks than SL.

Don't worry about young children at the HNY - they would fit in fine. But it sounds like your heart isn't in the place really!! ;) BTW, have you had a look at the virtual visits?

I would probably say go with Sequoia Lodge - it's a lovely hotel for a winter visit, plus you have the option of a fun pool (not that far away) if you suddenly feel the need to swim!

I think you are right. It seems that the SL ticks all the boxes. We will probably be doing the character breakfast at Cafe Mickey most days anyway as we thought they were really good value for money and just fab for the kids. If we don't we'll do the good morning fantasyland breakfast, just because the kids will love getting in early. You're right that my heart isn't in the NY, I think I was temporarily swayed by the whole snob factor bit LOL, but maybe when the kids are older. So I guess I just need to "discuss" it with DH (this means tell him what I've decided) then I can book. Woohoo!!

Thanks for all the advice, folks!
