I am planning to go to Disneyworld Florida end of April. I stumbled onto this site and I need some guidance about getting accomodation for a week. A friend has booked a villa with some points system from 27th April and I have no idea what he means and how to go about this. He says I need to post regarding a week's timeshare appartment from 27th April in Animal Kingdom. Can anyone help me I am probably posting a really easy silly question... sorry about that! :flower3:

Any advice would really be appreciated... Vx.

Welcome to the DIS :yay:

The Disney timeshare points system is known as DVC - Disney Vacation Club. So I would guess you are looking to 'rent' points from a DVC member to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas :)

Folks on the UK DVC board will probably explain it better then me and probably tell you how to go about renting points :)

Hi there - here are the rent trade boards: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29 on the page, you will see a link to (at the top to points charts). Check how many points you will need for your trip. Points are usually around $10 per point to rent and it is a very good deal so long as you get a legitimate seller.

Personally, I would ask for references from other renters. The DIS does not allow personal comments/flaming, so if someone has rented points on there and been ripped off, they're not allowed to complain about the seller on the board. So do be careful.

Hi there. I think your friend must be a member of the DVC as Tim mentions. You don't have to be a member or even stay at Disney - there are loads of hotels all around Orlando to choose from (mainly in International Drive area).
You will need a car though as Disney is around 10 minutes away and transport is not great outside Disney. This is our 7th visit here and we're staying on Internatilnal Drive. We have just bought into Disney this year though and are staying at Saratoga Springs next year.

Any help you would like please feel free to PM or email me.

:welcome: vanja! :goodvibes

Animal Kingdom Villas is the latest addition to Disney's timeshare inventory. At the moment, the only units available to rent using DVC points are converted rooms in the Animal Kingdom Lodge (with purpose-built units scheduled to open in 2009). Those which are available are hotly sought after and, due to the way the DVC booking system works, you could find it tricky (although not necessarily impossible) to book one of these units. Your best chance would be to find someone:

a) whose "home" resort is AKV; and
b) is looking to sell points.

However, you'd have needed to do this at least 7 months ahead of your dates. After that time, any DVC member can book units those units (i.e. those who have a home resort other than AKV). Because there are currently very few units available, they're likely to get snapped up very quickly.

However, that's not the end of the world. You can still pay to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. You'll be in the same hotel as your friends, albeit in a regular hotel room, rather than a DVC unit.
