Newbie does DxDDP for 11 days! Lots of pictures, loads of signatures (COMPLETED!)

I wasn't impressed with the Tuna Oscar either, as you said it was just a bad dish. We've had better luck at Kona for lunch and we're going to try breakfast there in Feb!

Too bad Kona was not your favorite. We love it there--the Ginger Rib-Eye is wonderful. But I will also say, it's the only thing I've eaten there.

Yeah I wish I had tried the Rib-Eye. I was thinking about going to the sushi bar, but they don't accept the DDP from what I've heard. I had so many credits left over already that I couldn't justify it.

That makes sense. I'm excited about the new location in Japan and am hoping for some semi-good sushi there.

I didn't take any photos of my food from The Wave breakfast buffet. Sorry. The Wave has quite a convention hotel feel about it. I have to say the breakfast buffet was really good. I'm not that fussy when it comes to breakfast. I'm happy if there's unlimited bacon, and this had the added bouns of unlimited smoked salmon. I'd recommend it especially to anyone wanting breakfast before going to MK.

At Wolfgang Puck Cafe, I wasn't too hungry so I skipped the appetiser and just headed straight into a big juicy burger. I wanted something greasy and bad and simple and this was perfect. It's an above average burger, for sure. The bacon on top was the perfect crispiness and I really liked the fries.

Red Stag Lemonade (USA)

Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel (Yes, yes, yes and again yes)

SAM_0506.jpg

Inside Karamel Kuche (Germany)

SAM_0505.jpg

Sausage and Pretzel Roll (Germany) - Good

SAM_0504.jpg

Seared Filet of Beef with Smashed Sweet Potatoes and Braai Sauce (South Africa) - Good

SAM_0497.jpg

Pot Stickers and Black Pepper Shrimp Noodles (China) - Two of my favourites

SAM_0495.jpg

Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Purée (Argentina) - This one was really good too

SAM_0445.jpg

Swedish Meatballs and Xante Sunshine (Scandinavia) - I love Swedish meatballs anyway and these were good, but the Xante Sunshine wasn't my kind of thing

SAM_0446.jpg

Rib Eye Taco (Mexico) - Loved this one

SAM_0572.jpg

Sangria from POR bar - I think I'm used to a more traditional Sangria, and this was just weird. I wouldn't call it Sangria at all.

SAM_0682.jpg

Tuna Poke with Seaweed Salad and Lotus Root Chips (Hawaii) - I liked this, it was good. Not as good as the tuna and salmon sensation from Japan though.

SAM_0683.jpg

Lemon Chiffon (Desserts and Champagne) - Good

SAM_0684.jpg

Lobster and Scallop Fisherman’s Pie (Ireland) - Really good

SAM_0685.jpg

Lobster Roll (Hops and Barley) - The bun was a bit sweet for me but I got a hell of a lot of lobster in there

SAM_0686.jpg

Shrimp Cake on a sugar cane skewer with Singapore Noodle Salad (Singapore) - Didn't like this at all

SAM_0692.jpg

The Lapu Lapu at the bar in the Poly - Yummy, but packs a real alcoholic punch

I thought I took more pictures but here's some other things I tried.

Lamb Chop @ Australia - Pretty good

Steamed Mussels with Roasted Garlic Cream & Baguette @ Belguim - Not bad but quite disappointing

Altenmunster Octoberfest @ Brewers Collection - This is the same beer they serve in the Germany pavillion, and it's my favourite beer of all time (even though I'm not a big beer drinker)

Maple and Moosehead-Beer Glazed Salmon with Barley Salad @ Canada - This was good, not great

Jerk Spiced Drumstick with Mango Salsa @ Caribbean Islands - Ok but not great

Sparkling Pomegranate Kir @ France - Not impressed at all

Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki @ Greece - Very yummy, really liked this

Cappellini con Gamberi Piccanti (Cappellini Pasta with Spicy Shrimp) @ Italy - Good but nothing special

Tuna and Salmon Sensation @ Japan - Possibly my favourite thing at F&W

Belvedere Strawberry Chiller @ Poland - My other favourite thing at the festival, I want one now

Myung Jak Bokbunjajoo (Raspberry Wine) @ South Korea - Different but nice, I liked this one

The Passionfruit, Blood Orange and Jalepeno Margaritas @ La Cava Del Tequila - All amazing, but there's something special about the jalepeno one

And *my favourite thing in The World* the beer and the pretzel from Germany. They need to transport Karamel Kuche and Sommerfest to London. I've tried to find this beer in the UK (impossible), but then I think it tastes even better because I'm in The World when I drink it. :lovestruc

I loved reading all of your reviews. It's especially nice to see a solo dining report because I am planning my own solo trip this October.

I know that you mentioned you'd avoid 50's Primetime when dining solo but would you avoid any other restaurant or were they all good? Did you like having the Deluxe plan as a solo diner? Would you pay for the plan if you couldn't get it for free? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. I'm trying to decide if I'd like to add a dining plan to my trip and I keep going back and forth. Thanks

I thought Hollywood Brown Derby wasn't worth the 2 credits and really wouldn't be worth paying OOP. But that might have just been my service/menu choices. 50s Prime Time was ok, but I felt a bit uncomfortable when the server introduced me to the other people in my section.

I loved having the deluxe plan as a solo diner! I was there during F&W so I just used ALL my snack credits at the festival. I guess going in October you could do the same thing.

It was a lot of food, and I could have done with going to signatures more than once to "get rid" of some credits. Namely Jiko, Artist Point and California Grill. But I wanted to try loads of places, and I still didn't get to do everything I wanted (from Earl of Sandwich to Via Napoli).

I didn't get the plan completely free, I upgraded. It cost me $150 to upgrade, which was worth it for me. I wanted to do a lot and I'm not planning on going back for quite a while, I didn't want to regret missing things I was desperate to do. For me, that meant either paying OOP for a lot of meals (more than $150 worth for sure) and not even getting starters with the meals. I'm much more of a starter person than a dessert.

I would probably pay for the plan again. Depending on the cost of the plan and length of the stay. If I was going back in 2012, I'd maybe look at the cost a lot more. But I don't plan to go back until about 2014 (???), until quite a lot has changed (new Fantasyland, Avatar in AK and HP Phase 2 at IOA), and I think I would definitely go for it then (if it's still around).

Hope that's answered your questions. Was a bit longer than I expected! :rotfl:

Thanks so much for your response. I've done the deluxe dining before and loved it but this is my first trip solo and wasn't sure about adding it. I'm glad that you enjoyed the plan and would recommend it. I guess I'll make my decision when it gets closer to my 180 day window.

Best part of the meal (obviously) was that you could put vanilla syrup into your diet coke. I miss the days when you could get diet coke with vanilla in cans in the UK, so I was very happy. Having it again after such a long time though has made me realise it is The Greatest Soft Drink Of All Time. Unfortunately the only way I can make something similar is to make it alcoholic with that expensive (but lovely) vanilla vodka. But that's not really the same. Ohhhhh Vanilla Diet Coke, I love you.

Could you use vanilla that you use for baking in a diet coke
