Usually a WDW person who does LOTS of planning is thinking of a trip to UO and IA. It would be me, DD9 and DD17, possibly going the second week in July. My questions: where is the best place to buy tickets? UT? Would 4 days be enough to see both parks? I'm assuming UE would be necessary to combat lines at this time of year? We usually trade into a timeshare when in Orlando but would a night at a Universal resort be worth it for, I'd assume, 2 days of Express Pass? None of us are coaster people. Any other suggestions?

One night on site and 2 days of express pass would be enough to see everything.

Yes, one night onsite will give you two mornings of early admission (I imagine Transformers will have early admission in July like Despicable Me did last summer) and give you two full days of unlimited express access.

July= Heat, Crowds, Long Lines, Crowds, Confusion, More People, throw in some rain/ thunder, and did I mention Crowds.

It would be well worth the one night stay just for EE and Unlimited EP's. you will not regret this decision.

Is there any difference in the express privileges you receive by staying on property vs buying the privilege as an add on to your ticket? Is UT the most cost effective way to buy tickets?

The express pass you get onsite is unlimited. You can use it as many times per attraction as you want. There are 2 different ones for purchase. You can purchase unlimited ( which is not cheap and most people find it cheaper to pay for a one night onsite stay). or the regular express plus pass. The regular express plus pass is only good for ONE ride per attraction. The cost is based on projected park crowds. The more crowded it is expected to be , the more expensive the pass.At really crowded times of year( Christmas) the express pass can cost more than the park ticket. The express passes are DATE specific, PARK specific and non-refundable.So the board consensus is that if you are considering the passes and it not an incredibly busy time of year, that you wait till you get to the parks to purchase it.the drawback to that is the prices can go up .

If you're doing Disney and Universal the same trip, make sure you schedule Universal last. Best to end your vacation on a high note.
