Tuesday night we rushed into NYC to stay with friends up on E 88th so we wouldn't have to drive into THE City in the storm. Ahhh, it was blissful waking up and wandering out into the world, even in the rain. I miss hearing a new language every few feet and being able to have an entree of one ethnicity then walk across the street for an entirely different dessert then a few doors down for Espresso with Sambuca. First thing in the AM I got my hair cut at Ouidad then wandered down 6th Avenue to meet my DH for lunch on 46th and then spent 2 hours wandering Saks. Nothing makes me happier, or miss the city more than going back. Now I keep playing Billy Joel over and over, the man so captures the essence of the city with this one IMO

I can't wait for our overnight at the Marquis Christmas week:love:

I so agree with you. I have never lived in NYC, but it has always been my dream. We live about 3 hours away so we try to go up as much as we can, usually once a month. I love absolutley everything about NYC and every trip refreshes me like nothing else (even Disney!). Really wish I could live there full-time, but that will never be possible with my salary. My DD7 plans on going to NYU and living in Brooklyn though, so that may be my only chance!:rotfl:

DD23 is at school in NYC so I have been visiting every 3 months or so and I agree...it really has such a feeling about it...despite the fact I come home wiped out!;)

You made me cry...I sooo miss the City!

So sorry punkin, didn't mean to make you sad:grouphug:

minnie56, funny you mention school. My DD loves fashion and lately I've been REALLY playing up Parsons & FIT because OF COURSE we couldn't possibly let her go into the city all by herself;) Oh, and the NYU campus is in THE BEST place ever... love it, love it, love it (but no I didn't get to go there)! Where does your DS attend?

Princesspiglet, the other night DH and I were scrolling through and discovered places to rent in NYC are way more affordable that I ever imagined especially when you consider no need for cars or property taxes. Well, let me re state that, not exactly affordable for the 3 bedroom we would need right now with 2 young kids, BUT affordable for when it's just DH and I.

Some people dream of retiring to a quiet little place by the water. Not me, I dream of us retiring to the thick of the city where I can visit the TKTS booth on a Wednesday morning to see what's cookin' over on Broadway. Then when I'm bored I can check out the Guggenheim or what's new at the AMNH:thumbsup2 Now THAT is my idea of a heavenly existence.

Sigh... but until that time comes I'll be here happily raising cheery suburban kids in beautiful Pennsylvania. It's just that every so often I need to remind myself why I left the city, for the past few days I'm just having a hard time remembering.

It's OK, it's a good kind of crying.

When I was in college in Chicago, my boyfriend got us tickets to see Billy Joel (I will date myself and tell you it was the "Bridge Tour"). I cried at the concert when he did this song. I missed home so much...

I love big cities, too. NYC is one of my faves. Have fun at the Marquis! I stayed there once for a few days. Omg, THE VIEW of Times Square from my room! It was fantastic.

<sob> Now I miss it, too.

My DD attends Parsons LuvOrlando!
One of her roomates attends Parsons also and the other attends NYU.
It's outrageously expensive but she is loving every single second!

We went to NYC over thanksgiving. I want to go back now. I have soo much to see. I :love:New York.

I was there for Thanksgiving too! It was so busy as I expected it would be...

You made me cry...I sooo miss the City!

Me too! Not in a sad, sad kind of way, but reminising. I grew up 10 miles outside of NYC and it is part of my soul. I miss it and have wonderful memories of every season there.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time LuvOrlando! Have a wonderful time at the Marquis!

I miss it too! We were going to go back for a weekend this month but since DD has track meets on Saturdays all month we can't. :(

BUT..we have decided on a quick day trip the week after Christmas to show DD the windows and tree.

I went for the first time exactly 1 year ago and we'll have been there 3 times since then (before this year is over). I love NYC!

I have really been missing NY and up north in general this year. I grew up in Queens and went to HS in Manhattan. I also miss Boston and north of Boston too. I lived there for 9 years before moving to FL 5 years ago. My sister is in Cambridge now and we have to visit soon. I want to see the Tim Burton retrospective at the MOMA next year and stay at the Library hotel again!

I love love NYC and miss it very much. I use to work in the city and enjoyed it so much even at times taking it for granted. I worked at 30 rock and I would see the xmas tree every day during the holiday season. I don't get to visit much at all because of the prices of the hotels. I now live 5 hrs. away and a bwy show and a hotel for 2 days is just two much. I could go to disney for that price, not really but you understand. I enjoyed reading your post and love BJ song. I use my live web cam to get my fix.

 I just absolutely LOVE NYC!!! Love it even more at CHRISTMAS!!! :santa: I would love to be there right now!!! ::yes::

My DH worked for the PA/NY&NJ from 2000-2004 on a PORT engineering project. We were soooooo sad when the project was completed. We actually lived in Hoboken on the Hudson with views of the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING from our hi rise top floor apt.

LOVE BILLY!

I also love JayZ and Alicia's EMPIRE STATE OF MIND!!!!

I agree with you about it being special.

Adult DD and I were in NYC for the first time together exactly one year ago this week. It was SO much fun even for us midwesterners that didn't know exactly how to get around. But we learned fast!

DD and I were going to return to NYC this month, but my first grandchild was born to DD two months ago, so NYC will have to wait.

I think we'll take grandson to Disney instead next year.

Have fun.

I love checking out new cities and last went to Philadelphia. New York was nowhere on my radar but your posts are making me reconsider that.

Oh don't miss it!

What I adore about staying at the Marriott Marquis is that it overlooks Times Square. No matter how often I go I am amazed at the throngs of people moving around day and night. Whenever I get up in the middle of the night, any time, I gaze out the window and see uncountable people buzzing through the area. Takes my breath away every single time! It's so cool!

During the holidays is just so beautiful. But oh my goodness, to be able to wander through the streets near NYU during the springtime is an entirely different amazing, wonderful experience too. That time of year you can enjoy row boats and the Zoo in central park... its no Animal kingdom but it's lovely just the same. Oh, and the street performers are out too. Another wonderful element is in the warmer months the restaurant owners put outdoor seating outside cafe' style and throw the doors open so you can smell all the foods from every corner of the world intermixing and stop at any time at one of the welcoming tables.

Hmmm, I seem to be gushing, but I do just love it there! I do genuinely think it's worth doing at least once in a lifetime. We only live 1.5 hours away but we go in to spend the night for my husband's Christmas gift to me each year... I wouldn't give it up for anything (and neither would my family)!

I  NYC at this time of the year!

We're going in this weekend and on the 27th with my Dad. We're lucky living in Central NJ and that it only takes us about an hour to go in - we tell our DDs all the time about the fact that they are lucky living so close - this was really brought home to them when a college friend came a month ago and brought her DD. Her DD couldn't believe how close we lived to NYC.

luvorlando - how do you like your cut from Ouidad? My DD12 has very curly hair and I want to get her hair cut and styled there. We use the products which we both love!
