Hi everyone!

My fantastic hubby has booked a surprize trip (told me last weekend!) to New York for me on the 29th November for 3 nights. We're staying at the Omni Berkshire and I was wondering of anyone has any restaurant or bar tips and any other must have info?

We had Simon's book and you guys to help us plan our Orlando trip in Sept so thought you could help this one go fantasically too!

Many thanks on advance!

Claire

Wow - congratulations Claire - what a wonderful surprise!

Lots of regulars have been to New York and I am sure you'll get tons of advice soon - I am still waiting for my DH to surprise me! LOL

I reckon I might be waiting a loooooooong time! LOL

Enjoy and do come back and tell us all about it :D

Hi Claire :) We've recently had a wonderful trip to NY and I used a few tips from this thread posted by Astrid on the UK Community Board :-
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=259290&highlight=New*+York

We went around Manhattan on the "New York Sightseeing" Double Decker busses who have a website here: www.NewYorkSightseeing.com

We found that only on the top deck could you really appreciate the skyscrapers etc. but although we had brilliant sunshine, it did get cold and this was mid October and so you do need to wrap up really warm - not only that, our eyes were like roadmaps at the end of the day as the chilly breeze had affected them!!! The other way to really appreciate NY is walking - certainly sitting in a car becomes quite frustrating as the traffic is heavy and there are so many traffic lights with the road grid system, and again, you can't really see everything and appreciate the buildings etc.

Restaurants - there are SO many!! When you check in, pick up a free "quickguide" booklet that should be in your hotel lobby and they have a section on dining plus they will probably have a guest services who will advise you too.

Hi Claire,

Just to say you've made a good choice on the hotel!! We stayed there a couple of years ago and it's in a fab location, just off 5th Ave perfect for all your shopping!!!

One thing I'd recommend is that you visit the theatre on Broadway, we saw Les Miserables and it was fantastic we also had a pre-show dinner at the Rainbow Rooms and it was just a perfect perfect evening.

Sorry but I can't think of anything else at the moment apart from the usual sightseeing trips, shopping and Broadway!!

Lisa
