I know that this is asked a lot, I am looking at a trip to the USA for 2008, which is a long time away however we are trying to work out a budget so we can start to save.
We are thinking of doing a trip visiting both New York and Boston. I have looked on the VH and while they have some options they don't appeal to me.

While in New York it will mostly be a shopping trip, with a little bit a sight seeing. I was wondering what would be the best area to stay in for shopping.

You can stay almost anywhere as you can walk to most places. I stayed just south of Central Park on 7th and 54th West I think. Only went on the subway once to go down to see the Statue of Liberty & Ground Zero

The Ramada Plazas good, just across from Macys

We've been a couple of times, first time we stayed at the Novotel on Broadway 52nd Street. We had a fantastic view of Times Square, the second time we stopped at the Hotel Belleclaire on 77th Street, this was a 6 person suite for £140 for the night, not brilliant decor but a good place to get your head down. Subway stop close by which we caught down to Battery Park.

In Boston we have stopped at the Wyndham which is down near the Sea Front, Whale Watching and Quincy Market .

We stayed at the Renaissance a couple of years ago which is amazing and bang in the middle of Times Square but is quite pricey. We stayed at The Swissotel Drake this Easter which was also lovely but is sadly now closed and being turned into condos :)

We have stayed at Crowne Plaza Times sq. The view made the holiday, looked down on times sq and over to the right was the Empire State Building. If we ever go again we want the same room. Cost £150/night but worth every penny.

We liked the location of the Hudson, on w58th St, just below Central Park.

We liked the Radio City Apartments just around the corner from Times Square.

Hi Jackie,

We stayed there around 4 years ago now in a 2 bedroom apartment and it really was like a self contained flat. The kitchenette is part of the main living area and is stocked with coffee every day by the maid. We found that they were in an ideal location to pop back and relax for a while during the day and because they are apartments rather than a hotel room they are a lot more light and open and nicer to spend time in.

There is a subway station a couple of hundred yards from the entrance and a very nice deli on the corner. There was also a really nice diner a couple of blocks away where we went for breakfast every day but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

The apartments are about a minutes walk from Times Square, Central Park is I think around 10 minutes walk away and the Empire State Building around half an hour or so away.

I don't have any photos but the pictures on their website give a pretty accurate representation of the apartments.

Hope that helps.

Thanks David :thumbsup2

sound good
