My husband and I are taking a quick trip to New York over the 4th of July weekend this year. I am looking for a suggestion on a hotel which will have guaranteed views of Macy's fireworks. Price is not a huge concern, I just want to know before I book it that I will see the Macy's fireworks, so that I am not wasting money. We are not big on crowds, so I am willing to spend nearly whatever it takes to avoid the crowds and yet see the fireworks. Alternatively, I would take suggestions on restaurants which would offer guaranteed views, but would not be considered a "party spot"--give me a chair, glass of wine, and a viewing spot and I will be happy. I do not want to do a boat cruise. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Make sure you are on the east side and somewhere in the Murray Hill / Gramercy/Kips Bay/ East Village area.

The fireworks shoot off from 23-34 street (give or take a few blocks) so the closer to the river you are there the better.

Here is a list of places with good reviews

Best Western Seaport (higher rooms make sure you face east river)

Millinum Hotel (again higher up facing east river)

The Standard East village (again high east river room)

Note most hotels in NYC with fireworks views will sell the room as such and put a massive upcharge on it. I'm talking 1,000 - several grand for that night.

If its on the East River you can also look for hotels in Brooklyn (but not Queens too far North). Hotels will advertise if they have views, its similar to the Macys Parade or Times Square on NYE. You can't judge just by location as it depends on how tall the building is and how tall the neighboring buildings are. If you google you can even find some lists http://www.nycinsiderguide.com/july-4th-in-new-york-city#.V1s0X9IrKUk

Also check if the view is from your room or a rooftop area. If its a rooftop it may be hosting a party or event that you pay extra for but is open to the public so that is another thing to research. The good news is they normally do a few barges (I have seen up to 5) so it spreads people out over a longer distance and there are more options.
