Good morning, all.
We're just waiting to close in 2 weeks on our DVC purchase & trying to plan one of our first trips as DVC owners, but we can't decide between the week of New Year's 2009 & Easter 2009. I understand both will most likely be crazy crowded, but can anybody give a reason why 1 week would be better than the other, both crowd wise & in terms of booking availability?
My thinking is maybe Easter would be better because it's in mid April next year, but maybe that doesn't make that big of a difference.
Thanks!!

I've been over NYE (2003-04) and this last Easter week. I thought NYE was more crowded. If you go early and do what you really want to do, Easter is not an issue, or at least it wasn't with me. If you like to sleep in and expect to go at 11AM and walk onto Soarin', it isn't going to work either time.
BTW, you have more of a chance of a cold snap over NYE.

Not sure what you mean by week of "New Years." Are you talking about arriving Jan 1 (a Thursday) or before. If arriving Jan 1, and staying a week, you will have huge crowds for about three days and then crowds will quickly disappear. If planning to arrive Dec 28, whole week is extremely crowded but you do have all the Christmas decorations and changes (shows, parades go to Christmas theme), which are to die for. However, I believe it will be very difficult to get that time if you attempt to reserve now, well beyond the 11 month window.

I have been both Easter and Christmas. Crowds are about the same -- extreme, and it matters not when Easter falls.. With Easter you get some relief because waterparks are open and crowded because it is warm enough, thus taking some of the crowd away from the theme parks. Unlike Christmas, you don't get much in decorations or holiday theming for Easter. Weather is usually ideal at Easter time. End of Dec and Ealry Jan is usually decent but you can get cold days.

First and foremost, WELCOME HOME!!!

My experience and thoughts exactly. In general, Orlando generally has gorgeous weather over spring break. It's hit or miss in December. If you're wanting to visit the parks and spend your time there, I don't think it truly matters. If you want to swim or spend time at the water parks, Easter is your best bet!

Congrats and good luck planning your upcoming trip!!! party:

Are you talking about Dec 08 and Jan 09 for New Years? Those nights probably are already booked up. You should still be able to get Easter at your home resort in May.

Last year we officially decided that there would be no more Easter trips. It is just too crowded. I can't speak for NYE though. My break next April falls with Easter so we have decided to cruise instead. When the ship is full, it's full. WDW is never full, just crazy crowded!

Thanks for the welcome home, Buckeye Fan!!
So, NYE might already be booked now?! We were hoping that OKW would still maybe have some studios left, given the size & location, maybe more people drift towards the Boardwalk area resorts.

People drift toward every resort on that night. December 31st is widely regarded as the single most in-demand night of the year. Not that long ago DVC would utilize a lottery system to determine which members would be eligible to book a room that night.

Each resort has a membership base in direct relation to the number of rooms. OKW may have more rooms than some but it also has more owners. And people like staying the night of 12/31.

BTW, among the Studio, One Bedroom and Two Bedroom villas, Studios appear to have the highest demand.
