Where would be the best place to have dinner on New Year's Eve? I imagine we'd like to be either at Epcot or Magic Kingdom as these two appear to be open until midnight (or later). Does any place do any thing (extra) special for New Years? Any suggestions would help. It will be me, dh, and DS4.

DHS also will have extended hours as well (I think it was 3 AM last year, but we left after the midnight fireworks).

Just make sure that if you make a reservation at MK or Epcot that you get to the park early (how early? it's a mystery) because those parks will stand a high chance of closing for capacity reasons on NYE. And your ADR will not get you in if they do.

Of course, the same could be true for DHS, but it's less likely, I think.

MK & Epcot do tend to close due to capacity, however they also may reopen later in the evening when families with young children leave, especially after Epcot has the early fireworks show. I'm not saying they will definitely reopen, but in 2007 we were exiting Epcot around 8pm (we just couldn't make it till midnight since we got there at rope drop) a lot of people were entering. Our friends went to MK last year & they left in the afternoon & rested for while (against advice from the CMs that kept saying they couldn't guarantee they'd get back in) and they were able to renter after dinner.

All the CMs will tell you that if you're going to Epcot, to get there first thing, because it will close whether you're a resort guest or not. With the park being so crowded, it makes for a very loooong & exhausting day. This year we are going to sleep in, try make a late ADR anywhere in Epcot & hope for the best. Not sure where the "best" place is to eat, but here's the link to the NYE special dining events at WDW. Most of it is from last year so I'm not sure if this year's dining options have been announced yet.

One year for NYE we ate dinner at Biergarten and then stayed for the midnight fireworks at Epcot. We came back to the park at about 4:00 and had no problem getting in. It was crazy busy. We sat for the longest time to wait for the midnight fireworks, but it was worth it.
One other time we ate at Rose and Crown and had an outside seat, and had a great seat for the early addition of fireworks at Epcot. We left after that and watched the midnight ones from our resort.
We always go to MK on the 30th. since they have the same fireworks as on the 31st. It is also crazy there. We have also been there for the 4th. of July.
I don't know if I would do it all the time but it is great to see at least once.
This year we are arriving on Jan 1.
