No knock intended to national health care. I know it works for many and a couple of years ago when my mom passed out at the bus stop on our vacation in London I was so very grateful to have her ambulance ride and total care at the ER covered. Not a bill to us for a cent. So I'm personally grateful for that "gift" from the state of UK. I feel strongly that if you don't care for the services that your government provides and you can opt to look to live where you can get more services then move. I know that may sound harsh, but to me complaining about a government not offering you everything for "free" (that's my hot button) is just plain greedy.
We had a busy and sad weekend. My mom's little dog, Rikki, a 4 year old daschund had to be put to sleep. She had a rapid decline and on Thursday was dragging her rear end (when to the vet got some prednisone) the next morning she was completely paralyzed, the vet then said it was a genetic disc problem, they could do surgery $5K and she would have a ?% chance of recovery (not sure if she even would quote what chance to my sister since it was so small) and then is she did make it she would have HUGE therapy (which my mom since she is in her dementia state couldn't do, as she couldn't remember to do it., let alone give her medicine (we have mom's med brought to her daily) and I can't even begin to think of the accident in the house issue) So we had to put the dog to sleep on Friday. My mom is very sad, as this dog was a "gift" to her from my dad so she would have a companion (he knew he was not going to live much longer)
All this happened on the day of our 11th wedding anniversary. Very sad, a hard way to remember that day going forward.
We also had some good stuff happen too, the kids danced last night at Sons of Norway and I'll post some pictures later. Paul and I had a romantic dinner at a wonderful french resturant, Le Papillon
http://www.lepapillon.com/aboutus/index.html
and the kids when over night to friends so we had ALONE time
My sister, mom and I went to my nephew's wife's baby shower Saturday morning. She is due 2/1/08
Then we went to Enchanted!!! It was wonderful.
So even though it was a sad weekend with the loss of Rikki we had moments of joy and laughter. The circle of life....
