Brenda, do you like Martinis? I know an Italian place on 48th and 3rd that has free Martini's for ladies on Wednesdays. Take a look at the Venue section; there's very nice outdoor seating.
http://www.ribotnyc.com/

okay...i've never had a martini....so this could be a good choice....should try one sooner or later....i'm a lemon drop girl
Choosing a place to eat in NYC is an almost an impossible feat with all the choices. There are at least 20 restaurants within 2 blocks either way from your hotel!

There's another, more quaint restaurant, serving Turkish food, called Sip Sak, on 48th and 2nd. It's not as upscale as Ribo, but the food is great. The chef is very well-known here in the city.http://www.sip-sak.com/menu_rol.html probably not my thing

One more, great for celebrity-spotting (Hugh Jackman and Glenn Close were there yesterday), open 24 hrs, and is a really popular place is Cafeteria on 7th and 17th. The prices are reasonable and it doesn't look like much, but that's what makes it cool. They have outdoor sidewalk seating, inside, and a downstairs lounge.

this would be cool too!!!! think Johnny might show up????? Depp that is!!!!:thumbsup2

Ok, only one more, I promise. If you're feeling naughty, you can go to LIPS, which is a drag restaurant with a floorshow and GREAT food. But if you blush easily, well... We took Chad there for his surprise 21st birthday last year, and OMG we had a blast. Thank God my dad didn't come, as he would have walked right out of the place with it's, um. adult humor. No nudity, though!
Here's a pic of Mel being, uh, bothered by a "lady". That kind of humor isn't his cup of tea, but even he had to laugh at the innanity of it all. Notice my hand, saying I'm not getting involved!

At the table. It wasn't too "adult", as we were able to bring Jesse and my 13 year old nephew.

well looks like everyone had a FABULOUS time!!!!

Also, on 53rd street, on the way to your hotel (about 3 blocks away), we'll pass by a dress shop that has gorgeous gowns in the window, mostly gold, which by coincidence is very "in" here. It'll be fun to look, even in passing.

You're going to have a ball...you have to look for the naked cowboy standing in the street on 42nd and Broadway, playing a guitar. He's not actually naked, but wears boots, a cowboy hat, and tighty whities!

And one quick thing about WOD: It'd big, but there's not much adult stuff there. The cool thing is that "Capt. Jack" makes daily appearances, as well as other characters. The prices are just like at WDW, with a few special deals, mostly for kids items, but the atmosphere will warm your heart as if you really were in WDW! There's even a photo op session. I almost cry whenever I go in. AND the GUCCI store is right across the street! (5th and 55th). It's a short walk from your hotel.

If you want to see John Lennon's building, the Dakota, where he was shot right outside, and also it's the building that Rosemary's baby was filmed in, it's on 72nd and Central Park West, easy to get there by subway, unless you would like me to drive you by there. Yoko Ono still lives there. Down the block from that is McCourt's, a bar/restaurant owned by Malachy McCourt, brother of Frank McCourt who wrote Angela's Ashes. Malachy wrote a few books himself, ran for NYS governor in the last election, and is a real NYC CHARACTER. I LOVE that guy, a real off-the-boat Irishman with a wit to match. He's often sitting at his own bar with a pint of Guinness under hand, and he's someone who'd be a memorable man to meet, who'll have you laughing and have you falling in love with him at the same time.

Ground Zero is a site to see, downtown. (You're hotel is mid-town.) You'll be able to see the Empire State Building from many places just walking around the city. The statue of Liberty you'll also be able to see as we drive into midtown. What else? You can see Central Park from 7th ave., and it's walking distance from your hotel. You'll basically be on Broadway, since Broadway and 7th Ave. converge, so you're right smack in the theater district with all the lights at night. St. Partick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Radio City, and the NBC and MTV studios are also right there.

If you had more time, I can show you John Gotti's house (the famous Mafia boss), who's family home is a few blocks away from my house. I could show you the studio where As The World Turns is shot, as well as the Cosbys when it used to be on, also near my house. Brenda, you have to make another trip to NYC in the future! There's just so doggone much to see and do here. And you have to take a subway ride, even if it's just for a few blocks! The subways are safe, trust me, ever since Mayor Guiliani cleaned up the city 10 years ago.

OMG I just remembered all the museums, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, the Hayden Planetarium, the Post Office, which is the biggest post office in the world and open 24/7. And Coney Island for a REAL Nathan's frank. (We don't call them hot dogs here in NYC, they're franks! LOL)

I'm sorry, you must be exhausted from all this reading, I'll stop now!!!!!!!

all this is GREAT info!!! I'm going to print it out - Lora absolutely HATES to fly (terrified of it)...but she will - usually with or for me.....so i need lots to keep her occupied on the flt to LGA, so figured going over all that NYC has to offer & what to do when around our "reserved" activities would be great!!! Thanks so much...I am SOOOO anxious to get there and meet you!!! and yes absolutely i will COME BACK...there is SOOOO much to do, and we'll never get it all done in one trip!

Kaz....if i forget to mention it before i leave wed a.m. - have an absolute FABULOUS - MAHVALOUS TIME!!! i know you will!!!! Warm wishes for an exciting and loving vow renewal:love: !!!!! You know we will all be SOOOO anxious for photos & some more photos!!!!

I read your post about excursions last night Aisling...

I have access to passporter pages and can look up the excursion you asked about. Anything that's changed since the book was published I should be able to look up for you on their forums. It's not a general access account like most, I pay $5 a month to see extra stuff they are getting ready to publish.

DCL made the pirate experience sound pretty cool~

I found out that I can take the train out of Trenton to get up to NYC, next I need to find out what times and what station it comes in to....as far as shopping at the WOD, if I buy nothing out of there I will still be leaving with having spent some quality Disney time with you and Brenda~That's all I am looking for in this visit.

I get to take a lunch today so I've planned a trip to my local Disney store...just to browse...I also know these stores have very little for adults. I check their clearance racks when I am there and I wander, that's about all~

OMG...where are all our "Magic Mateys" - 18 hours has passed without a single post! no....i'm not packed...but i WILL BE tonite....have most of it at least laying in piles in the guest room to be packed....at this time tomorrow i'm well on my way! :woohoo: hoping that NWA is ontime and all goes well!!! i want to get there ontime!!! we can be as late as necessary next week....i don't care!

Tigg - can you find out anything about the cooking class that is offered in Cozumel? I think it is fairly new, and tried doing a search on it in the boards, but no information is available. If you could send me or pm me the information you find out, it would be greatly appreciated:love:

Good Morning All,

I am again swamped at work but wanted to check in.

Nan, I am thinking about you and praying for your mom.

Tigg, belated Happy birthday.:bday:

Karen, have a wonderfull trip and happy Vow-Renewal.:bride: :groom:

Aisling, if I ever get to NYC I'll want you as my Tour Guide. I hope you girls have a great time. We are going to want pictures!

Jeff and I had a weekend and I'll just end this by chimming in with MEN!!!!!!!!!!:sad2:
Don't they know how lucky they are to have them in our lives!!!!!!!!!!!:worship:

:grouphug:

I will look for both today,

the Pirate Encounter (in Key West?) and Cooking in Cozumel~

The Pirate Encounter is in Coz or Cayman, I think Cozumel. (Brenda, please help me out with this one!) I know for sure it's not the key West excursion, which goes to a Pirate Museum. The excursion takes you out on a boat, and when the boat anchors, you can jump the plank into the wate. It's one of those wooden pirate ships with sails!

Don't get me started on husbands. That's why you HAVE to come on this cruise, no matter what! We'll have a shot for every good thing we ever did for our men, and then our cruisemates can carry us to our rooms for the night!:rotfl: (Well, they might have to drag me, unless I start my low-carbing SOON!:rotfl2: )

Debbie, when you get to NYC someday, we're going to LIPS!!!!!!! It would be a riot!

Off to see if Jesse is doing his HW!

I presume this is what you are looking for. It is in Grand Cayman.
It wasn't one of the excursions that was on our list.
There were people boarding it.
This is a picture from my 1st Western cruise. We passed this on the way to the dock.
Our excursion was snorkeling with the sting rays

Now I'm going to change my siggie. I was in a nasty debate, and it got the best of me, so I retorted by showing my national pride with the USA thing. So mature of me!

Nan, the bad thread was closed/locked by the mods on the Community Board. I'll try to link it for you. Thanks for keeping us updated on mom.

Brenda must be Minneapolis airport right now, getting ready to fly to NY. She must be so excited!

Tiggie, any train info yet?

I wish all my fellow cruisers a perfect day!

It's ok Nan, Mom is more important right now~

Oh Brenda, so sorry to have missed ya! You have a fab NYC vacation and I'm sure we'll have a unforgettable vow renewal... :cloud9:

OK, Aisling, just a description for now but I promise there will be photos... ;)

It's a deep turquoise silk halter-neck dress with a tropical flower print in pinks, burgundies and golds. The hemline is ruffled and uneven - very salsa! Accessories-wise, I have a burgundy velvet and sequined shawl, a pair of dark gold strappy shoes and a turquoise silk bag. I'm wearing simple gold and pearl jewellery. The bouquet and buttonhole are burgundy lilies and I think (hope!) the whole thing will look good together... FINGERS CROSSED!!!!

Aisling,

the train I will be on comes in to NY Penn Station from Trenton, it looks like I'll need two hours travel time. If I catch the light rail by 8 I can be at the station by ten of ten. I have to ask Rose and Jeri (my other friend who wants to come) what time they'd like to be in the city by.

At least for now I have the schedule and you know what station...

I should know by this time tomorrow the rest...

Goodnight all
