New Year, New Beginnings - January 2022 W.I.S.H thread

Sorry about getting a slow start today, as most of you are well into your Sunday by now and even at the end of it.

Self-care for me today will continue to be lots of Tylenol and Netflix. I've been doing the wet-sock thing and the congestion is tolerable, but I'm also taking an herbal supplement called Clear Lungs, so it is probably a combo of the two. Thankfully I've finally finished binge watching The Crown, what a heavy slog that was to get thru all four seasons, not a bit of lightness or levity in any episode. And I really don't care for Helena Bonham-Carter so her portrayal of Princess Margret was tough to stomach. Today it will be The Great British Baking Show and Anne with an e.

The weather yesterday was perfect, with that achingly beautiful slanting winter sun we get being so far north. Around 4:30pm I did the beach drive but was actually a bit early for sunset as the days have stretched past 5pm already. This morning is foggy, if it burns off I will go for a walk in the park later, but will wear a mask even tho it is outside. I'm 50/50 on whether this is or is not covid, will know tomorrow or Tuesday. Even for a cold it is mild, feeling badly but not outright sick. If it is covid, I would have only gotten a light viral load, having done nothing other than shopping where everyone was masked up during the period when I would have been exposed, so I guess it should feel like a cold. It would actually be a relief to have had it and gotten it out of the way.

I enjoy the sunshine whenever I can-our deck gets a lot of sun and even on cooler days, it’s usually warm enough to sit outside with a cup a tea for a few minutes.

I find cooking relaxing-and looking for healthy, good tasting recipes.

Love to read! And I do enjoy biographies of people with complicated lives. I’m reading a biography of Christian Dior’s sister. She was involved in the resistance during WWII and the inspiration for Miss Dior perfume.

Walking is my mental and physical therapy. I enjoy walking alone and just thinking my thoughts!

I love Anne with an E. I wish they would make more episodes. I also like the Crown but not sure I can do all seasons at one time. There is just no happiness in that show.

This weekend I have not done much. Yesterday I woke up dizzy and stayed dizzy most of the day. I spent the day on the couch. We did have a video call with our friends and the twins. It was nice to be able to chit chat with them.

Today has been rough. I am feeling very off and sleepy. I pretty much slept until noon. My body is achy but I think that is just from sleeping on the couch most of today. I came to the couch at about 230 when DH came to bed. He was snoring. We have had our couch for 16 years so it is not the best anymore. We are getting snow again with very cold temps. DD has measured over a foot of snow outside. This includes the snow we got last week. So I am guessing that we have gotten a few inches. It is still snowing too. Temps are hanging around 0. A good day to hang out at home and watch football.

I like this list! The hearts are the things I use, and the red are the ones I managed today - I got to bed fairly early last night, made time for a bit of cleaning this morning, got to visit with my MIL this afternoon, and of course the kitty cuddles are a given here! :cat::cat:. (Plus, puppy time at MIL's, so bonus cuddles. :dogdance: )

I have a book recommendation for the "read about people whose lives are more complicated" - I just finished When We Were Young and Brave, by Hazel Gaynor, the other day, and I couldn't put it down!

Sorry you are both feeling under the weather @Oneanne and @piglet1979

And thank you to all who mentioned Anne with an E on Netflix. I loved the older adaptation (with Megan Follows and Colleen Dewhurst) and most recently the prequel book, so I will definitely check it out!

Been super tired today...two of the kids were up past 10 last night. I actually closed my eyes for about 20 mins today while DD was napping and the boys were playing.
While in wdw in August DH bought a festival cookbook and DS9 has been wanting to try a recipe so we made cheese fondue today, was pretty good. We used to do fondue a lot but haven't done it in years so it was nice to introduce the kids to it. DS6 wasn't into it but the other two were...melty cheese what's not to love?
Watched some football in passing, wasn't paying attention to much except the last few mins of the rams/Tampa game...hard to get excited when your team is out.
Already thinking about dinner tomorrow and I have no idea what to make. It's tough with limited pallets around here.
Had an electrician come to check out the basement and give me an estimate on adding some plugs down there. The chest freezer in the garage isn't cutting it anymore. I want a full sized in the basement so I am not freezing half the year going to grab stuff out of it. The chest freezer was great when the kids were small but not as much anymore. Plus being short reaching into the bottom of it is not the easiest thing!
Its 9. I'm exhausted and really hoping DD settles down soon.

My motivation today? Well, I've gotten out of my pajamas and off of the sofa... the tiniest of small steps. The test came back negative, so this is the cold that is going around. Colds are usually around 10 days for me but I really don't know when this started. I think I was realizing it might not be the usually allergy stuff around Wednesday, so if I go with that it means feeling crummy most of this week. I am planning a shortened day today, after that we'll see how it goes.

The fog and clouds never burned off yesterday, it was one of those never really gets started days, and time went by really quickly. I remember looking at the clock around 10a, then it was 5:30p, then it was 8:30p. We are supposed to stay dry this week, so I will try to get out for walks... but I think that'll be my big accomplishment for the week.

It’s a beautiful, sunny day so will try to add some steps/minutes to my walk today.
I really like following the meal template. This is the second week using it-I feel like planning is easier. Today is soup day-we’re having chicken and wild rice soup tonight. Tomorrow is meatless and I found organic vegetable burgers we really like. I like having the week planned even if I have to switch around the nights.

I am feeling much better. Once I really got up and moving yesterday I felt better. I still have a bit of a runny nose but that can be just my normal congestion I have most of the time. Today I had my follow up mammogram and ultrasound. When I went after Christmas for my routine mammogram the radiologist said that the left one looked different from past mammograms and my doctor said it was blurry. I didn't worry too much about it until today. They were super focused on one specific area with the ultra sound which makes me believe there was more to coming back. So my small step for the next day or two is to just not freak out and eat every horrible thing in the house.

Snow is the word around here right now. We got 12 inches last week (some melted off during the week), another 6 inches yesterday and are supposed to get another 3-6 this afternoon. And I think more snow towards the end of the week. On top of that we have temps in the single digits to low teens with wind chills that are dipping to the negative. DD measured yesterday at one point we had 13 inches of snow on the ground.

I had to run up to the kids school just now. DD is dizzy again. The snow has started and the roads are already a mess. Thankfully I get to work from home this week and will not have to drive much in it.

Here is a picture of our snow. It is pretty as long as I get to stay inside.

 Mammograms are so stressful.

I hope that all is well with your results.

Glad it’s not covid. Feel better soon.

I have trouble getting in enough steps because of knee pain. After walking all day on concrete floors covered with linoleum, my knees are in no shape to walk on my treadmill after school. I don’t want to wake up earlier in the morning. So I packed my lunch and water last night and made my coffee ahead of time. I also laid out my clothes. That bought me 15 minutes to walk on the treadmill before school!

Coughing has subsided to only at night. Still super tired.
Went back to my coffee/protein powder for breakfast and ordered a bagged salad through instacart for delivery tomorrow need to get back into soup or salad for lunch. Ordered some yogurts for breakfast too because the protein powder in with the coffee gets kind of funky if I dont drink it quickly.
Trying to be more mindful with my eating, particularly snacking. Popcorn and skinny buckeyes during the day and a real treat (like a cookie) before bed. Just trying to ensure that when I give myself a treat it's because I really want it and am going to enjoy it and not just because I walked by the kitchen.

So good news on my end. The doctor called me with the results. There is a spot that they saw. Right now it is nothing. Just a spot that looks different then the other scans I have had. It is not a mass and there is no shadowing. All good things. They will watch it closely and I will have another mammogram and ultrasound in 6 months. They just want to be on top of it if it does start to change. I am so much more relieved but I know for the next 6 months I will be doing more self exams to make sure nothing changes. It will always be in the back of my mind.

So here is my PSA -- Get your mammograms and other scans when you are supposed too. This is not the first scar I have had. I have had pre-cancer cells on my cervix that was found in my first Pap test. I have has pre cancer cells on my back as well. This was by chance that it was found. I went in for a different mole that I didn't like the look of. That one was fine but the one on my back was not. I now have scans once a year. If this spot does turn into something in the future it will be caught very early. Also with this one, I switched doctors and hospitals since my last scans. It helped them to find the change because I got my scans from the other place. It is always good to have these transferred if you switch.
