New Year...Can we get rid of "this" already?

I absolutely hate it when posters put "this" in response to something someone else has said. Drives me batty. I try to skip over it, but really, if all you have to say is "This", then don't say it...it's repetitive and stupid and means nothing.

Can we ban "This" from the DIS for next year?

Okay...I know, someone is going to read this, and post "This". Yeah, been there, seen it.

Did you get coal in your stocking or something? You have nothing worthwhile to complain about so I find your post to be another stupid and repetitive rant that means nothing.

Really?

So now every opinion thread needs only to be 3 posts?

The OP, one post to disagree and one post to agree - sounds like fun!
Not at all. But how about each post containing an actual reply, instead of the word "this"? You know, even if you agree completely, maybe take a couple of minutes to explain why you agree. Express your own thoughts, even if they're almost identical to the post to which you're referring.

Although while I support the suggestion, I'm less inclined to support the OP after reading DisneySarah's experience. That was completely out of line.

Well if we are requesting eliminations, I would like to request that we eliminate all the "cutsies," like "ressies, "brekky," "kiddos," "binky," "paci," "nekky."
Holy cow, THIS. popcorn::

Nothing says "I'm a complete, total, utterly small-minded idiot" than an adult repeating baby talk to other adults.

And I swear, I think it was the one and only time I had ever done it! I can usually put a whole paragraph together on whatever a topic is, but I think in this one (and only) instance, the PP had just said exactly what I was thinking, and probably said it better than I could have. It was something I wanted to "support", so I simply put "this" - Then later in the day I got a PM from this person pretty much telling me how "small minded" I was for doing so.
If I received a PM like this, the message I would send back would a string of profanities and aspersions to the person's character.

But then again, I don't ever read my PMs. LOL.

Is it so much harder to type reservation than it is to type ressie or appie instead of appetizer? I have to agree with these cutsie little abbreviations are juvenile and weird. It sounds like adults talking baby talk to each other.

I agree to the extent that I think it would be ideal if most posts added something to the conversation. Posts that are one big quote followed by "this" or "+1" or "totally agree" really don't.

But, then again, I ignore posts that are big lists (what's your favorite movie...that sort of thing) because I just don't find it very interesting.

If all you have to complain about is "this", be happy.. the internet is home to a lot worse.

Is "ITA" acceptable?? LOL or how about just posting :thumbsup2

I did reply, and like you, I didn't have anything really nice to say to the OP. I mean, really - Who does that?? :confused3

....Oooh, I guess this thread answers that question..... :rolleyes1

Well, if you're over twelve or so, 'I agree' (over ITA) or the smilie, along with maybe a brief statement why you agree would be nice. This being a discussion board and all, simply agreeing - in any format - really doesn't further the conversation.

This is "The Disboards" - There is always someone waiting in the wings with a whole essay about what they think on a thread topic. I don't think one or even two posters saying the dreaded "this" is going to ruin, or even semi hurt a thread.

And yes, it does add to the thread, because it is validating someones thoughts.

PS - Calling someone 12 in your post is doing nothing more than showing your own immaturity. JMHO

I suppose poster could write "I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support," but the expression "this" is much more succinct and clear.

I've been avoiding using "this" on the DIS Boards because I wasn't sure that all posters would understand the nomenclature, but you have proven that most posters are aware of the usage. So thank you; I will feel free to start using it! :goodvibes
I completely agree with the post I have quoted, and would like to submit my own support for your opinion to ensure that other DISers know of this support. OR...

That. ^ :thumbsup2 ::yes:: Ditto. Agreed. :worship: :woohoo: :cheer2:
I used "This" in a post for the first time here yesterday. It clearly must be old and tired if I'm using it. ;)

Actually, "This" is to the DIS boards as "Like" is to Facebook.
Agreed. :teeth: To further explain and add an abundance of my thoughtful observations to this discussion, I'd like to add that "this" is like a "vote" for a particular opinion on a thread, in the absence of a poll.

I wholeheartedly agree with your observation and opinion...or...DITTO.
I like the response "this."

Sometimes a poster says exactly what you were thinking. I could rewrite what they posted, or I could just write "this" or "agreed".

I don't want to just skip posting because sometimes the OP really wants to know what people think and it's helpful to know that most people fall on one side or the other of an issue.
I wholeheartedly concur with what you have posted, and therefore, fall on the side of those who use "this" and understand the logic behind it. So..."this".

Sounds that way, no? :confused3

This Diser even took the time out of her life (?) to PM me when I did this on a thread. Seriously....
:scared1:

People need to get over themselves. If something bugs you, take responsibility for yourself and move on. Don't make your issues about everyone else.

I like the use of This, +1, Agree and even :thumbsup2 or ::yes::
I think people like to see a response to something they said even if it is just a one word quick post that lets them know that.

OP, if you don't like it, move on. No one here should feel they can dictate how anyone else chooses to speak.

I'll keep this handy, but holy cow, I hope I don't write "this" by accident without thinking! The things I have to worry about on the Dis.

This.

(and now you know where I stand on the subject :) )

Well Bless your heart. Don't let it get your "panties in a knot".

Nothing says "I'm a complete, total, utterly small-minded idiot" than an adult repeating baby talk to other adults.
Can I say "NOT this"?

So anyone who uses those phrases is a "complete, total, utterly small-minded idiot"? Wow, way to win friends and influence people. :lmao:

I don't think any of the terms you mentioned (ressies, "brekky," "kiddos," "binky," "paci," "nekky.") are being used as "baby talk". Ressies is simply short for reservations, kiddos short for children, binky, paci, and nekky (I think) short for pacifiers. To me, if it gets the point across, that's all that's needed. If we want to stop "shortened" versions of words, let's get rid of WDW, DD, DS, DH, DW, Poly, CR, DHS, AK, AKL, GF, TL, BB, DTD, etc. (note: I'm not actually proposing eliminating the abbreviations).
