We will need to replace ours soon and I want to do some research and get some recommendations first. The one thing I would like to have for sure if a drying rack for the dryer for shoes. Beyond that I am open.

I guess a front loader is the best option :confused3

Anyone have a brand they love?

I don't have a brand I love but have seen at Lowe's quite a few scratch and dent's or last year models at a really big discount in the aisle by that section and have been considering it. We have a set of the very cheap ones Roper I think and they truly are almost worthless - especially the dryer. It runs a long time and you have to reset it.

We had purchased a LG Steamwash 4.0 cu ft capacity washer and dryer, with the pedestals, last November and we love it. The are pricey although we bought a floor model that was being clearance out at Home Depot. The do not use as much water, they can wash 2-3 loads of clothes at one time (comapred to our old top load washer) and the clothes come out cleaner and dryer out of the wash than what we had before. Also, they are extremely quiet, my DW and I had to check it the first couple of times just to make sure it was working, because the previous washer and dryer we had bounce, shook and rattle constantly. When we bought, I had done a fair amount of research and the LG, Whirlypool Duet, and the Maytag Epic had all ranked high by Consumer Reports. If you have king bedding, I would recommend the 4.0 cu ft capacity washer, which is what we got. Take care and good like.

We have LG brand front loaders. They're a few years old, so I'm sure the models have changed. But I love them - fast, quiet, resource-efficient, and all kinds of bells and whistles - settings galore. Highly recommend the brand!

i love love love my new washer and dryer!! i had a front loader, hated it. wouldnt buy one again.
so i bought the cabrio by whirlpool. the washer doesnt have an agitator, so it washes and acts like a front loader, but has the option to add garments!!! and no back strain!!!
heres the link. http://www.whirlpool.com/content.jsp?sectionId=758

i spent 2 months researching washers and dryers and i couldnt find a better one.

edited to add...the washer is 4.6 cubic feet and it uses 44% less water and 55% less energy than the average washer.
the dryer is 7 cubic feet and dries in under 30 minutes!

We bought an LG front loader about 2 months ago because my old Roper top loader was broken. I LOVE the front loader - it washes clothes much better than my old machine, and uses a lot less water & detergent. I also find my drying time is reduced because of the spin cycle. One thing to keep in mind - you have to dry around the seal of the tub daily so you don't get a mildew kind of smell. It's not a big deal, but it is an extra step you don't have to do on top loaders. Even with that, I would never go back to top-loaders. I'm loving this machine.

if you just leave the door open you dont have a problem.

I just purchased a new front load washer and dryer about a month and a half ago. I got the LG washer that consumer reports recommends and the dryer to match. I love both of them so far. Haven't had any problem with the washer having an odor, but I do pretty much keep the door open at all times.

Shop around a little for the best price, every place I went offered to beat the last stores price by 10%.

How about a recommendation what NOT to buy...

The Kenmore (Sears brand) front loading washer - the one that can also be stacked with the dryer or installed under a counter top.

Worst Washer Ever!
