New Washer advice...repair old or buy new UPDATE POST 14

Thanks everyone....
Just went out and got a new washer...
HHGregg in Indiana was having sale....actually had them price match Lowe's. 24 months financing (already had the card). Lowe's was $300 cheaper than Gregg's. Delivered tomorrow.
$800 for a new one....BUT did cave and buy the extended 5 year warranty. After less than 3 years I have learned!

Since I think part of issue is I used too much detergent...was HE though. How much do you use and what is best one. Do you recommend liquid fabric softener or vinegar?

I use vinegar and Tide HE only. Our machine said to use 1/3 to 1/2 of the recommended detergent from the detergent company. This is what I always do. Our front loader is almost 7 years old.

New washer here...
Doing first load now with wish and vinegar.
Measured out a tablespoon of detergent.
They ran a cycle after set up and I forgot how little water actually goes in...guess when clothes are in you don't realize how little water.
Now I know I was adding way too much detergent.
Thanks everyone for the help I do appreciate it!

My new Samsung uses so little water. I was stunned to open it up during the wash cycle to see how little.
So I cut the detergent and fabric softener way back.
