New View of DCL Food & Loud "Music"

After our initial DCL cruise on the Magic last February, I ranked DCL food below Celebrity, Princess, HAL, and RCI. After returning from the 10-night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Wonder, I would say that DCL was better than the others that we have sailed except for Celebrity.

The new menus were great and the quality seem markedly better than we had on the previous cruise. So, this was a big plus and the only major negative that we had about DCL previously.

My only complaint is the level of the "music" on deck 9 during the day and during the deck parties. Do we really need to hear Brittany Spears blasting at 8:00 in the morning (or at any time for that matter)?

I'm 56 and a child of the 60s and like loud music. But, the deck parties were so loud as to be painful. Even on Castaway Cay, I could not swim out far enough to avoid it. It would be so much more peaceful if were dialed down a bit.

I saw a t-shirt on the ship that may apply to me: "If it's too loud, you're too old! I found that the Quiet Cove pool and the Promenade deck were the only place that one could have some relative peace on the open decks.

Aside from that, it was a great cruise and my overall view of DCL has moved up a number of notches. The crew appeared truly excited to be on an inaugural cruise and especially friendly and helpful.

I didn't notice the music -- only because I tried to never go *outside* ;) I was at the Family Beach on CC and didn't notice any music until I was walking back to the tram...
But, I do agree about everything else!
This cruise was absolutely WONDERful! It seemed everyone was excited to go somewhere different! And the special menus were great! All the extra touches did not go unnoticed by us! :thumbsup2

I am sorry I didn't meet you and your wife. It seems our dd's got along quite well! :) They are *yakking* right now! LOL!

Yes, the girls are on the phone right now. I did get to meet your husband one afternoon. All of the surprises and the obvious excitement of the crew really added an extra touch that we appreciated greatly....

Glad to hear your positive review!

re: loud music at deck parties, my sons (age 7 on our first cruise, 9 on our most recent in August) found it too loud both times; we always spend the sail away party on Deck 10! - and they aren't quiet boys by any means!

We were walking by your cabin and I was showing Pat (DW) what a fish extender was and he came down the hall to get in the cabin....we were in 8580....

I do not believe we had the pleasure of meeting you on the cruise :sad2: but I would agree about the food. I gained 6 lb. in 10 days. :rotfl: I thought the new menus were a vast improvement over our 7 day last year. The old treadmill got off the pounds til the next cruise.
