I've never tried the original, but I am curious--what does it taste like? Is it sweet or salty? Does it have the texture of peanut butter or something else? This inquiring mind wants to know.
Vegemite is most definitely an acquired taste. I liken it to the sludge that forms at the bottom of the vegetable drawer in the fridge (if you don't clean your fridge for a long time) and, I imagine, tastes the same. JMHO. I know people who love it and it's British counterpart Marmite.
I love regular Vegemite, but I've been eating it since I was born.
The trick with Vegemite is not to spread it too thick, as it's quite salty. It's most definitely an acquired taste. It's awesome on toast with some cheese melted on top.
I'm always up for a "swap" of some sort, if someone would like some to try. Just PM me.
As an Aussie here it is in my blood - i even sent some to Pete & Walter (the owners of these boards) before thier Australian trip.
I prefer to call it VegeLite - not as salty or as strong flavoured as the regular vegemite. Basically the texture of almost a cream cheese you get from a bottle (also made by Kraft).
crappy name but the product is good and it is good for getting the Vitamin B into you
