New to this board, can someone explain renting/buying points?

Hi, I've looked around a bit but couldnt really find the answer.

How does buying/renting points work?

I'm not a DVC member, if I wanted to book a Disney vacation and a DVC member has points to sell/rent, can I use those points for my trip? Does that mean my trip would be cheaper than regular?

I'm just wondering the benefits of someone selling their points and the benefits of buying them.

Also what happend after you buy them, does the DVC member have to book the trip for you? How do you get the reservation info/tickets after?
And is Disney ok with this or will they ask for DVC id from me?

How does buying/renting points work?

a DVC member has points that they can't use. for a price, they will make a reservation for you and you will rent that reservation. they will continue to control the reservation at all times so any changes or adjustments like adding the DDP or DME would have to be done through the DVC owner.

at a DVC resort and for sun-thurs nights, yes. (there is a link to point charts in the top right hand corner of the screen.) on the down side you are renting from an individual and not directly from disney, so if you have a problem, you are on your own. the individual you rent from may require immediate payment and may not allow cancellations. also, stays on points do not receive daily mousekeeping. so there are tradeoffs.

accomodations onsite at wdw and the benefits (DME, DDP, EMH) that go along with that. any other DVC member perks do not extend to renters.

again, the points themselves are useless to a nonmember. DVC member services will not speak to you. you are renting a reservation. the DVC owner will forward the confirmation of the reservation to you after payment...and yes, disney is ok with this.
