New to the photograpy world

Hi everyone! I am excited to begin a fun new hobby in photography. My DH got me a new camera for Christmas! After getting many not so good photos at our DDs wedding, I mentioned to him that it would be nice to have a good camera. Apparently he was listening to me. The only other cameras I've ever owned have been little point n shoot or my iPhone. I'm excited to learn how to use my new camera and learn what I can while reading through these posts and looking at all these wonderful photos! I'm pretty intimidated by the camera, hoping I can eventually figure out how to work it. Here is one we took during our recent trip to Disneyland!

Thank you, I just put in a request for the book. I have a good friend that is a great photographer, getting lots of tips and things to read from her as well. I'm sure this book will help!

Thanks! It's one of the few pictures I got that I really like from our trip. We got a Canon Rebel T5 EOS 1200. Not really sure if that's te correct name/kind of camera......obviously a rookie! We're heading to WDW in two weeks, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can before we get there.

I also recommend reading Understanding Exposure. The single biggest thing you can do to improve your photography skills is to have a solid understanding of the technical side of things. Once you understand that you'll know what settings you need when and be able to nail the shots you want in the future.

I am also beginning a hobby in photography. I have a Nikon P530, a point and shoot but with some flexibility in exposures and settings. I got a few great shots in the fall at WDW and am looking forward to shooting the topiaries and flowers during the Flower and Garden Festival in April. Any suggestions for photos with minimal other people crowding in on the shots? I am an early riser and make it to the parks for rope drop. I know many of your shots are taken at night, but my night shots did not turn out very well.

I totally agree with Understanding Exposure. Shooting anything in Disney early morning or late night to get the least amount of people. But we are talking about Disney. When shooting the Topiary look for different angle and get up close. Here is a link from my topiary pictures.

Night photos of the topiaries aren't going to be that impressive, but if you're wanting general night photos, you'll want to use a tripod.
