I am seriously debating walking/running the Princess half marathon. The problem is I really do not like to run. But this would be a good motivator to get me to the gym and back on track.

The big question is I have a strange form of plantar fascitis where the arch in the bottom of my foot and the ball of my foot is incredibly sore. Nothing has helped. It always feels this way so I exercise etc thorugh it.

Has anyone done a half marathon with a pre-existing pain problem and made it through the training?

Yep, I had PF for about 3 years of training. I think (knock on wood) I've finally shed it in favor of other more interesting problems. ;)

Have you seen a podiatrist? I had to get custom orthotics because I have freakishly high arches. Freeze a bottle of water, then ice the arch after each run, rolling the ice along the arch for a massage. I usually got the ice out while I ate breakfast so about 20 min or so.

Stretching helps. Sit on the edge of your bed before you put your feet on the floor in the morning. Put the affected foot crosswise in your lap with the foot on your knee. Pull the toes backward toward your knee a few times to stretch the plantar fascia before you even walk on it.

There are a few here who have faced that problem. Thing is though you don't want to ignore the pain either. As already asked, have you seen a doc about it yet? Most folks I've heard go through this find orthotics, ice, good shoes, arch additions slower pace will help. But the big answer, yes it can be done.

I had steroid shots, a walking cast, taping, physical therapy, orthotics. It is just something I have to live with unless I opt for surgery which I am reluctant to do.

Thanks, I think I may do it.
