Hi, I’ve just started running and I’m interested in doing the 2021 runs. I would be doing the 5k, 10k and maybe (a big maybe) the 1/2 marathon. Wondering what the difference is between the runDisney, Princess, and the Wine and Dine? Why is the price different for some of them?

I’ve done Marathon weekend and Princess weekend.

They are very similar as far as courses, expo, staging, etc. Princess has a “girl power” vibe, but it is not overwhelming.

Have not done Wine and Dine, so I can’t help with it.

Wine and dine is food themed but also includes an after party the evening after the half marathon at Epcot. It’s included for half marathon runners but would be extra for anyone else.

Me too! I've been running on and off for a few years, but am back into it again this year. The death of an ex-colleague (age just 54, I am 50) made me think about dreams I had and not waiting to fulfill them and rundisney is one of them.

I am planning for the Princess 5k and 10k in February 2021. I've chosen that weekend in particular for several reasons.

Firstly, I am concerned Wine and Dine and Star Wars weekends would be too hot for me to run effectively as it's always cold where I live (in the north of England). I know the races start early, but the night temperatures in Florida can be higher than our daytime summer temperatures in Lancashire.

Secondly, when planning for many December trips and keeping an eye on refurbishments, I noticed many attractions were closed in January, so I discounted it as I am planning to stay for 10 nights to enjoy all the parks after the race.

Thirdly, as I was originally planning to attend solo, the room rates were the most reasonable in February (although now a friend is tagging along it's not an issue this time). With the flight and hotel costs, 14 day Disney ticket, race entries and spending money it's costing around £2000, and around £2500 if solo.

Roll on June 9 when registration opens :D

I started in 2013--saw an article about a group of women who did their first 5K and told my wife "Gee, that sounds like fun." Next thing I know, I've got running shoes, a training app, and a goal. Funny how that works. :)

Ran my first 5K at the 2017 Marathon Weekend. Utterly blown away by the positive energy and vibe. My daughter did her first 5K at the 2018 Wine and Dine (we walked it), and we're doing the 5K at the 2020 Rebel Run. I'm also doing my first 10K that weekend--not expecting to run it all, but you have to start somewhere.

It's really become a big part of my life. I had some dangerous medical issues two years ago, and I really do think I got through them so well because I was in decent shape. Mind you, I drove my neurologist nuts on my checkups--"when can I start running again? Now? Now? Now?" Then again, it was probably a problem he could live with!

I've done the marathon weekends and Wine and Dine and I'd definitely favor Marathon weekend over Wine and Dine. I'm not that big of a fan of the after party that much so that's not a big draw for me. I just find the vibe of marathon weekend to be a lot more fun. More runners and more races makes for a race weekend that feels just MORE. Hard to explain really but the other race weekend just doesn't compare to the whole vibe of marathon weekend. I'm also a fan of escaping to Florida in the middle of winter too. :)

The courses aren't all that different. I think you should pick based on your ability to travel and what else is going on at that time. I prefer Wine & Dien becasue I love Food & Wine and really like the after party. January definitely feels like a bigger event and going purely on racing I do like it better but I would rather be there for Food & Wine which is why I go with that race more often than not. If you've never seen Flower & Garden Epcot never looks better and the Start Wars races are during that event.

I have never done Princess but have done a race in Tampa the same weekend and it can be pretty hot and humid for that race. It just depends on the weather. One year it was in the high 80's and 100% humidity while another year it was in the 60's.

No feedback on how the races are different (I've only done Star Wars, Disneyland, and Goofy (a bunch)) however, CONGRATS on getting into running. I started because I wanted to run a race at Disney like an older role model of mine was doing. I had a new baby, was over 30, and had never run a mile in my life. Now, I just can't imagine not running. I wish you all the best in getting bitten by the RunDisney bug.
