NEW TO RENTING/TRANSFERING- Help

Hi-

I am a DVC owner for a few years and have never rented/transfered points. I never planned to either, but today my wife advised me that i had to cut a friday and saturday night off of my august BWV reservation, leaving me with an extra 58 BWV points available to use until December of 2005.

If i wanted to "rent" these, how does that work?- also, what is the difference between renting and transfering, and who does the transferring?

I am sure I sound pretty dumb to you guys who have been doing this for a while, but when i mentioned the word 'renting' on the phone with my disney rep, she almost lost it(she was not in a "magical" mood to say the least). I would appreciate any help and I thank you all in advance.

Transfer is DVC to DVC and you would set a price and transfer to another DVC owner. Usually, you transfer first and they immediately send you the $ for the points. it is a final transaction and requires trust.


If a nonDVC owner want a rental, you negotiate with that person and make the reservation for that person. You will need the name, address, and names and ages of all guests. You will need to decide on terms and wheter or not you want a contract.

Many people ask for about 50% at time of confirmation and the rest more that 60 days out. It is better IMHO to rent early in your use year in case something falls through. Make sure tht the renter knows that there is "no refund" if that is the way that you want to rent points.

Search these boards for contract samples. It is not unusual to get $11-12 PP unless you are in a big hurry.

I just wanted to mention that only current year points can be transferred to another DVC owner. Banked or borrowed points can't be transferred so you would have to make a reservation for someone if your points are banked or borrowed.

How do you go about transferring points. Just call member services and give them the info? Seems like it would be better to get the money first then transfer.
