Hi, I'm not new to Disney World, but new to Rving and the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds.
Have booked a site for mid January 2008, and are going with another couple, who have their own RV.
Was wondering what the chances are getting 2 sites together, and if they have any sites that can face each other?
Any other tips? for Newbies??
Thanks

No, Ft. Wilderness does not have sites where the camper "fronts" can face each other. However, the sites are layed out in Loops with sites on the outside of the Loop and on the inside of the loop. Perhaps sites across the path from each other would work for you.

As far as getting two sites together, you can do one of two things, book both sites under the same reservation and request that they are next to each other, OR if you each have your own reservation, call reservations and ask that they "Link" your reservations together and request that you have sites next to each other.

If there are more than 8 people in your group of two families, you could have your reservations converted to a "Grand Gathering" and have them put next to each other.

I know that when we were there in May there were alot of families with sites next to each other. I know this because I kept trying to change sites on the first day and was told no because the empty sites I wanted were part of a family and they booked them next to each other.

Either way, you'll love the Fort. We'll be there Jan. 26. It's a great time to go.:thumbsup2

Welcome to the camping board. This place is indispensable for tips on FW. Just read the stickys at top of this board and take a stroll through some of the threads here. This will likely take care of 90% of your questions. Or just ask away.

clkelley has you nicely covered on the reservation question.

My favorite tips about FW as follows:

1. Take-out Bfast at Trails End. What a great deal. It costs only 1 TS credit (if you are on the DDP). It is one of the least expsensive TS at DW if paying OOP. I can easily make a quick meal for my family of 4 out of 1 take-out breakfast (w/a few minor additions from the camper fridge of course). Great value & who wants to make biscuits/gravy/eggs & waffles on vacation (not me).

2. Early check-in. No such thing, however, we always show up at 7am to get our park tickets/meal plan tickets (greedy to hit the parks). CM will check you in and usually sends you to overflow parking with a phone number and time to call for site assignment. In truth though, fully 4 of 5 times we have done this at FW, they just sent us to an available site w/o delay. How cool is that, open up MK on 1st day of vacation? Of course, you can't be picky on loops if you do it this way. Others mileage may vary, we have been lucky though.

3. Boat to MK is a big plus in my book. It drops you off right at the gate to MK. Granted, it does stop off at WL but still a very nice way to travel. The final boats around closing time do get pretty full. When this happens, we usually take the monorail to the CR and then take their shuttle boat to FW. Works like a charm too. Also, a nice way to get to Epcot is take the boat to MK, monorail to TTC and then monorail to Epcot. Somewhat roundabout way, but hey it's like a series of E-ticket rides to the kids. Also, we can leave little one in his stroller all the way through the gate convenient)

These are the biggies for me, but there are so many others....... like grab an adult beverage from Crockett's tavern watch MK fireworks from the beach. Great view. This list goes on.

One cautionary note. Speaking as a male type person here, you really need to stick the trailer back-in on the 1st try into your campsite. Otherwise, you will have a crowd of observers giving you advice and telling you how easy it was for them (what with their superior backwards driving skills and all). :lmao: Actually you don't have to, but it does help...... Don't get me wrong, people are very helpful (to include CM's), but it is the wrong kind of help for me in this instance. I mean, I drove the sucker ALL the way down here & can't put it in it's place? (did I mention I once rassled a 'Bar? Teddy 'bar anyways....)

Fair disclosure. On a previous trip to FW, it took me 3 tries in a 5th wheeler w/slider hitch to get it right. Not fun. Why, I had to do 20 one armed push-ups & growl like a 'bar to find my "manly-ness" again. :thumbsup2 I also offered to wrestle the "helpers" for beer...... no takers though (writer's embellishment: I just sheepishly thanked them and offered up "3rd time's a charm". It's a guy thing.

As you can see, FW is a "good memory" factory which manufactures high quality, indelible memories that last forever.

I like Mr. Man's tips but one thing I'd like to offer. Instead of getting there at 7:00 am and hitting the parks and then coming back, why not just get there a day early?

We leave Raleigh two days before our tickets start. We stop in Ga. overnight and then head to the Fort the next morning around 8:00 am. It gets us to the Fort around 12:30 or 1:00. We check in, go get set up, and once all is set, we head over to Downtown Disney for the afternoon. The next morning, we're feelin' fresh and headin' to the parks.:thumbsup2
