New to DVC...Can you help me understand 7-mo window?

Hi there! We are new to DVC, just bought 250 SSR points YAY! Forgive my sounding like an idiot, but I just have a quick question. I understand that I can book SSR at 11 months, and the others at 7 months, but what I don't know for sure is if we simply count back 7 months on the calendar or if it is by day or ??? Example: We want to stay from Dec. 19-26 at a resort that is not our home resort. Is it correct that I count back 7 months from my DEPARTURE date, and so the first time I can call MS and book is May 26 (this coming FRiday)? Oh yes, and I know to pray for availability as well!

Yes this is correct (Date then back 7 calender months ) if you want to wait and book the entire thing.

How ever you could start booking day by day and get up to the 22nd tomorrow if you wanted to.

Don't wait until the May 26th to try to book your trip...otherwise you will be disappointed...which you maybe anyway. Be prepared to go on a waitlist since December is a popular time at DVC and WDW in general.

I would book at SSR...NOW...and then see about availability at the other resorts once you book SSR. At least you will then have a ressie somewhere and if the other resorts open up, then you can cancel SSR.

When dealing with December and other popular times at DVC, day to day ressies are almost a necessity.

Yikes, I wrote this right in time! Got up to call at 6:00 am my time and was able to secure a 1 bdrm for at least those first 3 nights at WVL. I didn't realize we could do it day by day and now am so glad I asked in time! Thanks again!
