Hi all,
First time posting here. We're getting ready for our first camping trip to Fort Wilderness. We don't have a pop-up, just a nice sized tent and a few sleeping bags. There are going to be about 5 of us, My wife and I, our other couple friends and my little brother.

Since this will be our first Disney camping trip, I was wondering if someone could give us a few good pointers / ideas or suggestions for our trip. We're coming up from Miami, so no worries about Transportation.

Thanks!!

Edit: Planning on going late June, going to watch the shuttle launch on our last day there.

You'll want a tarp the same size as your tent to place under it to keep your tent floor dry, the sand pads absorb a lot of moisture when it rains. You'll want a mat or a piece of carpet to wipe your feet off when entering the tent, you'll also want a small broom and dustpan because no matter how careful you are, some will get tracked in:idea: Also bring plenty of towels, there are none available at the pool, you will probably go through lots of them.

You'll be alot more comfortable with airbeds. And you'll have electricity, so think of all the things that you might want to "plug in" (lighting, fans, DVDs, mini-frig, etc). Put a Screenroom over the picnic table. Make up individual bags for the Comfort Stations. Have fun.

WELCOME! :grouphug:

You didn't say if you were a regular camper. If you are, there are a couple of things the Fort has that make it a nicer time.

Electricity- When I tent camped, I never planned on anything electric. At the Fort you can take fans (or A/C- Yes, some have it in tents), electric griddles, refrigerators, TVs... And, YEP, you will see all that and more with the tent campers.

Cable- Since you have electric, a TV is nice. Don't forget some coax cable to hook it up.

Comfort Stations- I have never seen a bathroom/shower house as nice as they have at the Fort

You're from FL so no need to tell you about the weather in June. Obviously preparing for rain will be important. Both the groud cover mentioned above but also an easy up canopy and/or additional rain fly over your tent(s) will help keep everything dry.

Welcome to the Camping forum and have a great time. We will be there a few weeks before you.

Sounds like you are creating your own adventure. Does any of the other parties snore?

Spent two weeks in a tent during christmas, supported by my family in the RV. Large plastic tubs, for food and or cloth storage as well as coffee table. Chairs, ext cord and a lamp for inside and outside the tent I bought florescent work light from Home depot. flashlights.

Gas stove if you plan on cooking, cooking gear, paper towels and trashbags. Having more than on canopey would be idea, as you can cover the picnic table and have a place to cook /hang out.

The pizza and fried chicken the tavern are Grade A

Thanks for that info! Will definitely look into getting a tarp for it and extra towels!

We haven't been camping for quite some time but it's something the wife and I would really like to get back into.

We're definitely going to take air mattresses. I'll have to give the plug in / electrical devices some thought.

A few of our friends are cast members and are going to be joining us. One of them has parents who have a camper. Deciding whether or not to do the camper or the tents. We have 6 adults and 1 teenager (little brothers first camping trip). We'll have a total of 2-3 tents. Since this is our first time there, I have a few questions:

1) Are several tents allowed at the same camp site?

2) How close to each other are each site, and what is the general area like? (If anyone has some photos that they care to put up and link, I'd really appreciate it!)

3) Is there an area to create a small bonfire or is that not allowed? (I would assume it's probably not for safety reasons, but one can hope!)

Thanks again for all the info guys!

1) yes i have seen up to 10 tents on 1 site

2) the site are fairly close and there are some plants between the sites. I'm looking to see if I have any pics

3) you only can have fires in your own covered fire pit

Hope this helps

Thanks for that info!

It's a shame that the sites are close to each other. I'd like to have some space in between the sites. Also, what kind of firepit do you mean? Can you link to any so I can get an idea of what to look for?

Thanks again!

Thank you again Dis, I'll keep that in mind while I'm getting gear together! We'll be heading up June 16th. I'm starting to get a list of items together that we should probably start looking at.

-Edit- for being tired.

WDW asks that only 2 sleeping tents per site and 10 people.
