New to Cricut- Your top 5 Favorite Carts? Please help...

Hi Fellow Scrapping Dis Friends -

I have resisted getting a cutting machine long enough! I have decided after reading through many of the threads, the expression is the way to go. I'm not sure what the expression 2 is yet, but I will look into that.

Anyway - now that I have decided to do it, I am OVERWHELMED with which carts. to get, where to start my collection. I really would love if you shared your top 5 must have carts. and which Disney ones you would recommend. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the help, I love this board and spend hours looking at all of your handy work. I have a 'simple' approach to my scrapbooking, I use my Microsoft Word and fonts to make titles for my pages, but I'm ready to take it to the next level.

What carts to buy is really a matter of what you like to scrap, and which you think are worth the $$. Good luck in purchasing a cutter. I love mine.

My favorite general carts are Create a Critter, Simply Charmed (you can make the items without the faces), Life's a Beach, Graphically Speaking, Boys will be Boys, and Paper Dolls (love both Everyday and Dress up).

Have fun, i have the smaller one with all the buttons and the expression. I se the smaller one most because i can use scraps of paper and dont have to use the big mat alll the time.

I use Mickey Font and storybook a lot, I also liked opposites attract a lot when I first started out. Boys will be boys is great too.

you do know that the coupons don't work for the carts right?? - they will work for mats at JoAnne's

yes, I realized the coupons don't work, but the Cricut Expressions (Pink version with extra cart., also came with Plantin Schoolbook and Accent Essentials) was on sale for 179.99, so it was a pretty good deal. I then went to JoAnne's where I got the Mickey and Friends and Sketch your Imagination for $39.99 each. I looked at the paper dolls, but I thought the others were a good start.

I started with the Mickey Cart. and tried to do the word Disney, very cool. I wish I had one of you experts here to show me the ropes (none of my scrap friends have one of these, so I'm the first). I'm going to play with it tonight and go to youtube and try to learn there. Figuring out which buttons to use, etc. is a little complicated.

The one question I still have that no one at the store answered was what is the best adhesive situation to put the paper crafts together. Michael's guy said basic glue stick???? The another lady said the sticker machine that starts with an 'X' - is there something less expensive that you all think works well for the paper crafting part?

Thanks again for helping me form my list of must haves. I am hoping to go to Hobby Lobby (not sure if they are a national store) and Target and Walmart tomorrow in hopes of finding some more Disney carts. and some of the other favorites you recommended.

I used to use the Xyron as adhesive for my pieces and it works ok, but I got tired of the extra glue on the edges. I now only use the Zig Glue pen!! I swear by this glue pen. I have tried so many different brands and this is the only one that I have found that doesn't make the paper curve or bunch! On big cuts, I use my tape runner.

perfect! The zig pen is on my list for tomorrow. I just sat down for an hour and figured the whole darn thing out! I am beyond amazed how cool it is!!!!
I really need the Disney font cart. now, I hope to find it tomorrow so I can start scrapping my last Oct. trip.

Be patient with yourself when you are first starting out. It is a complicated piece of technology with so many variables when it does not do what you want it to do. There is definately a learning curve, but enjoy your new toy!

Also, on the adhesive, in addition to zig pens I also use the dual ended Scrapbookers glue pen from 3M. It is great for gluing down large items!

Congrats on your new E! I have the pink one too and love it.
Another vote for the Zig Pens ... I used Elmer's glue sticks in the past and switched over to the Zip Pens ... they work great for the pieces you'll cut with your E.
I'm not much help with what carts to buy ... the reason I bought my first Cricut (the little one) was because I heard they were going to make Disney carts so I've had to have each of them. Mickey and Friends is a great Disney cart to start off with ... the princess carts and the Pixar and Classics are a bit more challenging so this way you'll have some practice before getting those.
I also love Disney Font and the Pooh Font as well for Disney pages.

Thanks for all of the information and encouragement! I spent several hours yesterday and made the laying down Mickey and smiling Donald from Mickey and friends - they turned out great - I made them big, 5", and it was easier to handle the little pieces. Wow, that was time consuming but fun!

I called all over town to try and find the Mickey font cart. with no luck, so I just ordered it from Amazon for $27.18 and free shipping.

I can tell this is going to become my new 'addiction' - of course in addition to all things Disney!

I only own six carts to begin with, but my absolute favorite is the Hello Kitty Font! I looked for ages for something with nice "puffy" letters, and when I set that on rounded, I get them. (You can also get tinier letters than the official smallest size by choosing the flower setting and using the cutout parts instead.)

I probably use George and Basic Shapes next. (It's the one that came with my machine.)

Then Celebrations and Opposites Attract.

Then Doodlecharms and Wild Card.
