New ticket bridging issue

Hello, I've bridged pre-purchased tickets several times, but last month had a new (to me) issue that I thought would be of interest. I learned about bridging here, so figured I would update with my latest experience.

I bought 7-day hoppers from UT shortly before the Disney price increase. In the past I've been able to bridge (after first day use) as if I had paid the current price. I bridged two of those 7d tickets to APs and the $$ amount was within the realm of what I thought it would be...but I didn't pay close attention, so I may have overpaid...my mistake.

Later in the trip I upgraded the rest of our 7day passes to 10day. While the CM was working on it, I asked "It's around $30 per ticket right?" She said no, it would be about $80 to add the 3 days! Yikes! I let her know that I was under the impression that it would be $30 and she immediately called over a manager-type. He said that it shows that I bought the ticket before the price increase so it tries to add that to my upgrade. I resigned and said, if that's what I have to do, then OK. He modified the transaction down the $30 per ticket without me having to ask, which was nice and told me that not many people buy tickets that far ahead of time...which sounds crazy to me! The increase was in Feb and I was there in Nov/Dec...I'd venture to guess that at least half of us buy our tickets 6 months ahead so we can do dining res's.

So, it worked out in the end for me, except for the 2 AP upgrades, I probably lost $50 per due to me not paying attention. This is very different than my previous bridging experience and it's worth a warning to others who buy discounted tickets and then try to upgrade them after first-use.

Pay attention and they might make it right for you!

I bought our tickets for our recent trip (10/31-11/7) from UT probably around 5 years ago. One of these days I have to pull out our non-expiring tickets and see what I can do with them!

Very nice pixie dust. Since the price increase in February, that hasn't happened because all tickets now sold by Disney have an expiration date. The ones bought prior don't. That's how they (Disney) know.

You didn’t lose that money. It’s all in the policy. They bridge tickets to the current gate price. The problem is that the February price increase wasn’t simply an increase. They added expiration dates. Which made the tickets available at the gate a different ticket. There’s no longer a gate equivalent to the ticket you had. Therefore, you get credit based on the most recent gate price for the same ticket, which is the pre-increase value.

I just did a bridge on Saturday from 7-days (pre Feb UT) to AP’s. Were within $.99 of what Robo’s post said. They also deducted the $20 we paid that morning to park.
