After a few days of adjusting to the news, I find the title of my other thread sending chills down my spine so I decided to start a new one to keep you up to date as info becomes available..
When I got home today there was an email waiting for me from the investigative reporter.. He found a newspaper article that they had written about the incident, but it was entirely different than the "cut & paste" that I received.. Theirs was much more detailed - but the woman was 2 years older than my sister would have been at that time..
He's continuing to dig for more info, but on another note was able to verify that "he" does in fact have a family member on the Battle Creek PD force..
Meanwhile, after jogging the memory of another one of my family members it came to light that "he" had been in a mental hospital himself - sometime before he married my sister.. Don't know why, but it's an interesting bit of info.. I'm still jogging brains - hoping that someone can figure what year they were divorced - based on the age of her daughter in photos.. If I can get that, there's a good chance I can get a copy of the divorce decree and prove he was no longer the next of kin..
Approaching this in a more methodical manner is proving to be the way to go.. Piece by piece the puzzle will come together... I just have to be patient so as not to "make waves.."
