I just got off the phone with a really nice young woman at the Disney Visa customer services office, and she said that a few days ago she booked her August trip to WDW. She said the CM on the phone told her that they're building a "temporary amusement park" within Disney, using designers from Disney around the world, Tokyo, CA, etc. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of DL. They're installing some of the best rides from the Disney parks, I think she said. I hadn't heard about this. Does this tie in with Soarin' Over California? Has anyone else heard anything like this?

The closest thing I can think of is the temporary History of Disneyland exhibit that is movintg into the space currently occupied by Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. I think its a fairly safe bet that there are no plans for a temporary park. This would take way too long and be way to expensive to be practical.

OK, that might be what it was. She said that they gave it some really long title, like "The Incredible, many more adjectives...Park". I'm sorry to sound so confused, but I knew this would be the place to ask. Your instinct is probably right. Thanks for posting so quickly! :flower:

I think it's just a marketing thing. The new WDW Vacation Planning DVD uses this angle, saying that for the 50th anniversary of the Disney theme parks (specifically, Disneyland), WDW is putting together stuff from other theme parks around the world---Cinderella castle stage show from Tokyo (to MK), Stunt show from Paris (to Studios), Soarin' from DCA (to Epcot). It's a good marketing hook, but I tend to think the hook was thought up after the fact.

The really long title is "The Happiest Celebration on Earth salutes 50 years of Disney Theme Parks."

The Disney Visa customer service rep must have misunderstood. It's true that WDW will have various shows and attractions from other Disney parks around the world, but they won't be in temporary theme park. They'll be spread across the existing WDW theme parks.

Epcot gets Soarin' from California Adventure. The MK gets Cinderellabration from Tokyo DL. Disney-MGM gets the "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show" from DL Paris. And Animal Kingdom gets Expedition Everest and Lucky the Dinosaur from Disney Imagineering.

The angle of getting gifts from other Disney theme parks is a clever marketing spin. It sounds much better than: "Three parks get clones; one gets something new that's sort of like the Matterhorn."

Thanks, that sounds exactly like what she was describing! I did tell her to start checking out the DIS boards. I know she'll become addicted like the rest of us! :earsboy:

...and, "Soar over California because that's the home of our first theme park" not because "we're too cheap to do a new movie for this cloned ride."

I was hopeful for a moment that this was an announcement that Hester and Chester's disgrace-o-rama was going away.

I think you mis-read that entirely!!!!!

Hester & Chester's is going to be installed in every park world-wide as a part of the celebration, along with the new Stitch "attraction" (?) !!!

;)

I like Hester and Chester. I want them to expand it. The theme is perfect for DinoLand. And the coaster is a blast. Ever since Kennywood got one like it in 1999, I thought Disney should join the group.

Kennywood! They should replicate that whole park in Florida for the celebration. What a great place.

Remember when Disney used to be innovative, and actually gave us "indescribable" experiences we couldn't get anywhere else? You know, back when imagination and creativity were part of every Disney attraction. Now Disney is just about building rides to keep up with Kennywood?

Thanks Mike. You have built a lasting legacy at Disney.

slightly OT but...speaking of 'temporary' park exhibits, does anyone else remember/miss epcot's Spain pavilion (built for the 2002 food and wine fest)? i understand that the world showcase pavilions are largely funded by their home countries but it was such a pretty pavilion, i wish it had become permanent. i worked at epcot at the time and since it was only a temporary pavilion they mostly put epcot employees from puerto rico in it who could speak spanish, once when they were short on staff and put me in there (me = connecticut yankee), talk about NOT authentic. people would always get annoyed when they realized i wasn't spanish
