NEW-STARWOOD PREFERRED GUEST-Questions/Answers

Just like with my starwood email. When I emailed AT&T I said to give this to a manager because I'm sick of the run around and WHAMO! got my points:)

AT&T responded to my second demand to award my 2000 Starwood points for enrolling in online billing with the follwinge e-mail:

"Thank you for contacting AT&T Online Customer Service.

I have reviewed your account and confirm that the order you placed for
online billing was ordered at a website that does not support the
Starwood Points. Unfortunately, you are ineligible for the promotion."

Have you ever heard anything so moronic? ..."ordered at a website that does not support Starwood points!?" I went straight to the site I was instructed and signed up. It's that simple. What kind of bogus operation am I up against?!

I think a phone call to AT&T customer apathy is in order.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Fargoman - you are certainly running into some brick walls of late. :( Good luck with AT&T Customer Apathy!

Quick question!

We did not book our room through Starwood because the offer was from Sheraton Vistina Villages. When we tried to ask to use our Starwood points they said we couldn't since it wasn't booked through them.

Well when we go to check-in in about 2 weeks.....if we want to talk to them about trying to be able to use our SPG points and gaining for the stay, should we go to the SPG check-in desk or the normal check-in?

Thanks
Mike

It has been about 2 weeks now that I have tried to get my 4000 bonus points for getting (and using) my Amex card. I have emailed, spoken with and did just about everything I can do, but pay a visit to their office. I still do not have my points. I called Starwood this morning(again) and asked to speak to a manager(learning from Shelly). He said the 'sweep' at Amex is being done(to see if I am using my card) and won't be completed until next week some time. What does that mean? It seems that a phone call to Amex would prove that I used my card. I could also send them my bills! Not sure what is going on, but now I am going to pursue this out of principal!!!! Do you think it depends on who reads your email or who answers the phone? (sort of like calling for reservations and upgrades?!)

We just got a card in today's mail from American Express, for Starwood Preferred Guest AMEX cardholders. I don't see this on the Starwood site yet, but this is what the card says:

Redeem Starpoints now and get points back toward your next free stay. Get a head start on your next award with a Starpoint rebate. Redeem Starpoints for free nights or free flights between August 1 and September 30, 2002, and get 20% of your redemption amount back. So, if you redeem 1,000 points, you'll get 200 points back toward your next free getaway. Redeem now - by phone or online.

Cardmembers will receive a 20% Starpoint rebate on total Starpoint redemptions booked between 8/1/02 and 9/30/02. There is no minimum or maximum number of points to redeem to qualify for the rebate. Rebated Starpoints will be awarded to your Starwood Preferred Guest account in a one-time lump sum 8 to 12 weeks after the end of the promotion.

I'm not sure if this is available to all Starwood Preferred Guest members, or just those with the Starwood AMEX card.

Decisions, decisions...we redeemed 56,000 points at the end of June for our hotel in Paris (October). If we cancel the reservation, then re-redeem points after August 1st - that's a rebate of 11,200 points! But do you think that's ethical?

Does anyone out there recall the origination source of the AT&T online billing enrollment offer that included 2,000 points?

AT&T and its reward partner are claiming no knowledge of such a promotion. Starwood says it's an AT&T problem.

Does anyone have the cold, hard facts? Who is responsible? I refuse to lose!

Thanks for your help!

I was on the starwood & AT&T sites for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to sign up for the 2000 point offer. I finally called AT&T and after being on hold for another 30 minutes found out that the link from the AT&T loyalty page is NOT correct. Use this link below and sign up to get 2000 starpoints. This is a really great deal!!!!!!!! I can really use the points.

I have had my am. express starwoods card for over 2 months now and still no points(4,000 ones). Any idea what i should do about this.

Looks like JM1 has solved Fargoman's problem. F, you should call and explain, or cancel and re-enroll. But if time were an issue, I would call and also email with the page and explain what Jim said.

Keep us posted.

I just got an email back from Starwood which stated that if I didn't have my points after my second billing cycle to call them and they would help expedite the situation. This was in response to a second email I sent after I got the first "Contact American Express" reply. It sounds like you've been through two billing cycles so I would either call or email them again. Hope this helps.

I'd like to know where you heard of getting 4000 points for enrolling. I enrolled and received no bonus points but I can get bonus points for stays at STARWOOD hotels. 1000 for the 1st stay and 500 more for each additional stay up to a certain amount. Plus, if I make reservations online at the starwoods site I can receive an additional 500 points for each reservation.
Above is the latest from the starwood site which will give you 3000 points but only if you enroll in the program between July 15, 2002 and July 31, 2002. Also, pay careful attention to the last line above. This is NOT at all appealing to anyone that is already a member. OH well !!

Just have to keep looking for points deals and post them HERE. Keep looking EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is listed as a perk on an email that I received on 04/29/2002 from Starwood promoting the Starwood AmEx Card. One of the perks listed is as follows.

"4,000 bonus Starpoints with your first purchase anywhere American Express is welcome."

I signed up for the card after receiving this email.

It was been two billing cycles for me and I also received a "contact AmEx" reply from Starwood about my inquiry into the points. I am going to email AmEx and see what they have to say.

I applied somewhere in may or so and the offer was for 4000 points. I should be at the 2nd billing cycle about now and thats what starwoods emailed me as a reply. I'll have to be persistent as soon as i find out if my second billing is complete.

All of you were so helpful in finding a solution for my 2000 AT&T points problem. Now I know where I need to go. The only bummer is there's no way the points will be posted in time for my July 29 trip.

Anyway, I knew that I could count on all of you for great, helpful information. I appreciate your heartfelt empathy for my trials. You are all great people. Thanks!

Here's another link from car rental companies to earn points.

http://www.starwood.com/preferredguest/starpoints/earn_ground_transport.html

I have 2677 points and counting for my trip in December. I just bought a washer for over 500 points and my car inspection came to over 600 points. That's over 3777 points.
Knowing I'm getting points makes it a little easier to pay the bill. HA HA !!!!

EVERYONE. Keep reporting ways of getting points on this FORUM.
