New Soarin as good or better then the original, or is it just different?

yeah I understand that. I would've been fine with no animals on the Greenland portion, just the location. I just don't get the need to throw something at you for each transition.
Like the castle, and Sydney and the hot air balloons didn't need animals, it was just beautiful. How many animals were there in the old Soarin?

Oh I see what you are saying, it's not a wrong opinion by any means and shared by many. But we are now down to 2 scenes out of 13 plus the Taj. I doubt many folks would prefer no elephants in Africa but I guess they could remove them and the other scene remove the Polar Bears and whale. I wouldn't, I like the whale splash changing the scene and the dust from the elephant. The old splice like changing a tv channel is OK but not as cool IMO.

Either way, if its really 1000 times worse now-you can bet those small changes could and would and will be made soon to make it 1000 times better. I honestly can live with those changes and certainly would be fine with the Taj scene replaced. Just not enough to matter at this point, and certainly not enough to go back for us anyway.

I'm guessing that they should, or eventually will show both shows.
So many different opinions on the new film! I haven't seen it yet myself, but I'm loving reading what others think about it.

Thanks for starting this thread, Polybound! We like it so much that we chose to feature on today's edition of the DIS Daily Fix! :)

I guess the chose to end in EPCOT, like the original ended in DL.
I've been wondering if the DL version still ends there.

I didn't know that Epcot has a different ending and I'm very happy about that. I can't wait to see it!
I think this confirms that the two coasts have different endings. Right?

I love that the parks have different endings! We saw it in DCA and I just assumed it would be the same in Epcot.

I loved the old version but I thought it needed an update. I could tell that some parts were digital but it was wonderful nonetheless. :thumbsup2

saw it twice on recent trip, left underwhelmed unlike when we saw the original, reminded me of Google Earth flyovers... preferred the France show, ok no wobbly seats but very comfy, much longer and lovely music. The Canada show definitely needs refreshing mind, I've written more inspirational PowerPoint presentations...

Looking for opinions on whether the new ride will be too scary for an almost 6 year old who is well over the minimum height. She is fine with themed rides like Haunted Mansion, POC etc. but hesitant about roller coasters as she says they make her sick. Is there really a lot of actual motion to the ride? Thanks.

I think she'll be fine. The actual motion on the ride is really minimal...once you get past the initial lift off the ground. Even that's not scary, just make sure she knows what to expect. I agree with others that the new one doesn't have quite the same sensation of flight that the old one did, so I'd think it's less prone to motion sickness.

I really like the new Soarin'. Maybe my expectations are super low, but I don't care that a lot of it is CGI. I went into it just looking for a neat "flying" experience with views of different places around the world, and that's what we got. Could they have put more thrills in? Sure. But for a family ride, I thought it was a lot of fun. Maybe I'm just a simple guy, but I didn't even wonder "Why did they pick this location" or "Gee, that's clearly CGI". When I'm in WDW, it's a bit of a reality escape, so I just go with the flow and enjoy the rides for what they are. We rode it 4 or 5 times in our recent trip there. The only odd thing is the distortion if you're in gates A or C, especially if you're at the far end of those. It's strange to see the Eiffel Tower look like a banana. But otherwise, it's a lot of fun. I loved the ending over Spaceship Earth, really cool.

What I'd love to see them do, if it were up to me, is make a few more versions with different stops around the world. Have different endings, all at different spots in WDW. Mix it up, so you get a different experience with each ride.

I thought it was fantastic. I went on the old Soarin about 2 years ago and I don't remember loving it as much as the new ride. We waited an hour to get on the ride, and afterwards felt it was absolutely worth the wait.

I miss the charm about the old one- the cameraman calling up his friends with kayaks and canoes, to make sure there would be people on the river; it's actually not orange groves, but avocado trees because of the time of year; hidden Mickeys on the mountain, the golf course.......
I did see a documentary about the new film and they really did use a helicopter with the camera dangling underneath for most of the scenes, but I would expect current technology to be used anyway, because they can.
I understand the need to update and I'm glad I have memories of the old one.

See what you done went and done. I thought I did great getting bonus fast passes after expecting to invest an hour in the Soarin standby line. Now I sit here disappointed that I didn't get to see the digital version of the old film the week before the switch over. Now I will have to wish for a chance that after the newness wears off they may offer a few showings a day of the old film.

I read on an official Disney site, actually I think it was a D23 email article, that there was an abominable snowman in the Matterhorn scene. But my husband and I have been unable to spot it. Does anyone know where it is?

He moved into Expedition Everest, and now refuses to move again.

The D23 article lists the "Easter Eggs" that are in Soarin': Matterhorn, Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle, and the Great Wall of China.

It mentions the Abominable Snowman as a tip when riding the Matterhorn ride in DL, not for the new Soarin' movie. :)

I think I liked the old better because we rode it on our wedding night :( if only they fixed the screen. However, I do like the new smells and transitions. Just wish it was more realistic. Also, I think I like the music better now.

I'm guessing that they should, or eventually will show both shows.

I do not like the new one and I will say why below, but I don't want to spoil it for people who want to go in unbiased. Hopefully those people wouldn't be reading this thread.

***WARNING SPOILERS***

There is a ton of CGI that looks fake. Also, many scenes end with something flying at your face which is jarring rather than relaxing. Finally, I don't personally care for the new smells, one of which is dirt. Yes dirt, really.

I appear to be in the minority as I am not a fan of the new version. We rode it three times during our trip in July and I tried to keep an open mind about its content. The scenes were lovely, although not a fan of "fake" animals. Here is what seemed to be missing for me that I loved about the old version. There seemed to be a lack of personalbeness (sp/grammar ? sorry) in the new version. In the old, I felt a connection with the kayakers, the hang glider, the surfers and the horseman. Felt no connection to real people in the new version. The old also seemed to build to a point with the music, climaxing in that brilliant scene with the fighter jets whizzing by and then taking us back down to SoCal for a finish at DL. Felt like it had a beginning, middle and ending. Not so with the new version. Just my thoughts. Cheers.
