Have you guys been watching the news? Due to the terror threat in the UK, there are now new airport security restrictions in place everywhere, including Canada. While it's not as restrictive as the UK right now (they're not even allowed carry on luggage at all), it's still going to affect us.

No liquids, gels or anything of that type of consistency will be allowed on carry on luggage...it must be checked. That means no toothpaste, beverages, shampoo, hair gel, Purelle, etc. All must be checked.

There are exceptions and according to the TSA site in the US the exceptions include prescription medication as long as it matches the ticket holder's name, and...to what will be important to most here...juice for babies and small children.

If you're flying soon, you might want to check on this information and also arrive at the airports VERY EARLY because there are already delays at Pearson.

Driving sounds better now.......S

Thanks mbb for the link..
I have been freaking since I found out this news..I have a fear of flying anyway and now this on top of it all!! :sad2: ...

We will be leaving on the 19th and I have a son who is "irish fair" and he burns under a lightbulb :rotfl: !
I guess I have to put sunscreen on him before we leave..I hope it lasts , we are leaving from NL. and the flight will be about 6 to 7 hours.Arriving in Orlando in the afternoon..

I am glad that all precautions are being taken and I pray that all is well for all of our trips..

My son Dan is flying out to Vancouver next Tuesday to visit a friend. Glad to know that Canada is also taking the necessary precautions as I'm already nervous about him flying off alone even though he's 21!!

I guess I see this as the opposite it is probably one of the safest times to fly.

Boy am I glad we drive all teh new regs and stuff will just cause more delays and more headaches and grumpy passengers on flights thanks but no thanks.

you can pack the suncreen in your checked luggage...put it on when you get there...

All I can say is what is this world coming to? Looks like these security restrictions and threats will become the new "normal."

I miss the 'good ol' innocent days.....BIG SIGH.......Blessings, Sandra

I'll second that big sigh, Sandra :grouphug:

DH and I were "reminiscing" about the first times we flew...I was 10, and we were moving to Florida from NB...

We had "non-smoking" seats, a really good meal, we received wings from the pilot after our tour of the cockpit, and I don't really remember any more security other than the x-ray machine for our checked bags...which were huge, and probably weighed 100 pounds each!!

Next trip, I think we'll just take ourselves, passports, swimsuits and the kids handheld games....and just buy everything else there

And set up a "Dis-Swap" pass along so we can just bring ourselves, the passports, swimsuits and games home!!!:teeth:

:sunny:

We were joking in the office today that maybe the next step is that we all fly naked....which made me think...ew, I'm not sitting in THAT seat...

On a serious note, this really makes me change what I'm taking with me to Anaheim next week.

I'm probably going to end up leaving the laptop and cellphone at home and the only thing I have to worry about is my camera equipment.

Now I gotta see if I can find an internet cafe or business centre near Disneyland where I can check my email at least once that week....

The Toronto Star says that juice is now also banned. Originally you could bring it with you had small kids but Transport Canada has decided to prohibit them since you can get juice from the in-air service.

Heads up to those travelling with the kiddies.

Currently all liquids and gels are banned unless they are for an infant; in which case you are only suppose to bring enough for the flight. You may be asked to test the liquid in front of the CATSA guard when you go through screening. I work in YYZ operations and everyday I still see people trying to bring stuff through screening that they shouldnt and it does nothing but create delays. If you want to make it very easy pack everything in your checked bags and only carry what you have too in a carry on bag or clear large ziploc bag. Things will go so much faster if everyone did this. You can purchase drinks and juices on the secure side but the vendors will pour the liquids into a cup. I am unsure though if the airlines will let you bring the cup on the aircraft as this is their call. I believe that the rules will be relaxed eventually but this type of security is the new norm in todays society.

ONE OF THE BEST TIPS THAT I CAN GIVE IS EVERYONE GO TO THE BATHROOM BEFORE YOU GET ON THE AIRPLANE. I always find it funny how many people wait to get on the plane to go to the bathroom. :thumbsup2

I flew from San Francisco to Chicago yesterday and no liquid of any kind is allowed to be carried on the airplane. It is not the airlines call. It's the security agencies rules. The gate agents are starting to warn people prior to the boarding call to finish up.

What would really speed up the security process is to check your luggage and only bring a small carry-on bag.

Prior to the new security measures airlines did make the call but I just checked with Transport Canada and there is that temp. hold of all liquids except for infant necessities, even if purchased on the secure side. Most restaurants at YYZ have been asked to pull all bottles from their shelves and put everything in disposable cups. You can still get your Timmy’s but will have to finish before boarding. No new news on the carry on electronics yet though.

Currently we can still carry on electronics but they're encouraging us to check it.

I won't check my camera unless they tell me to...but I'll be prepared in case that happens. And I'm leaving my laptop and car keys at home. I'll try to make my carry on as easily inspectable (is that a word?) as possible.

We are allowed carry on luggage but they have to be in a see-through bag and it is only the bare necessities, i.e passports, money. No liquids of any kind whatsoever.

Unless something has changed drastically today, Transport Canada hasn't said anything about only the bare necessities and a see through bag...not even for flights to the UK.

The only things we should not bring on hand baggage are liquids/gels/aerosols. To speed things up at security, it's been suggested that we don't bring the kitchen sink with us.

Instead of reporting/listening to rumours, follow the link that mbb posted on the first page. Transport Canada sets the regulations for flights originating in Canada.
