New Security Measures for MK Guests; UPDATES: Page 12 - Post 222; Live Reports - Pgs. 18-20

Reading through all the pages, a few people have mentioned pat downs. How long has disney been doing pat downs? I understand the bag checks and metal detector, but honestly the thought of a possible patdown makes me feel uneasy. I know it can happen with TSA but that's possibly twice in a trip. With disney , because we are afternoon break type people, the possibility increasing greatly with us passing through security 15 -20 times.
The ones who posted "pat down" reports were those who set off the metal detector or those who could not go through the metal detector and were screened in a different manner. If you're able to go through the metal detector, you shouldn't have a problem. I set off the metal detector at DL in July and the CM looked at me and said, "Birthday Button." That was the extent of my more thorough search.

I think there were only a couple of posts that mentioned what they considered a "pat down" and I'm not sure they were all first-person accounts.

Speaking as someone in the security industry, none of this is done in the name of actual security. Statistically it's never been safer. It's the fear factor Disney is trying to quell. Disney doesn't want people not booking trips because they fear being attacked.

Also drives up the desire to stay in monorail resorts.

Honestly, the only time I see it being an issue is trying to make rope-drop at Epcot. Walking to TTC from Poly, you will waste time getting checked with all the people at the TTC while you just want to get to Epcot.

I really don't see how resort hopping would be an issue. Unless you are hopping at peak times, like park openings...otherwise I really don't see the big deal walking through security if there aren't long lines. So what if I have to do it leaving Polynesian and then leaving Contemporary to go back, it's not hurting me.

Yulilin3, in the picture of the resort bus area, it looks like there are 2 rows of tables. Is that right? If so, how do they know if you went thru? Or is 1 row bag check, 1 row metal detector?

Bingo!! exactly right. First set of tables is bag check they left some space and them metal detectors

Does it? If you are in a Monorail resort now you have to pass through security twice to get to Epcot, and if you want to resort hop to GF or Poly for a meal you get searched leaving every resort. That's doesn't increase my desire to stay at a monorail resort.
I agree, and the cut in monorail hours along with its repair issues makes the monorail as much a question mark as an advantage. Still those resorts are amazing.

Actually people walking from the Poly get checked on the walkway over not at the TTC with everyone else

Oh is that true??? I thought we were to get in line with all the people coming on the trams to head to Magic Kingdom. Good news!

I've never had one. Even when I set off the metal detector they just used a wand

We're staying at BLT this summer. To get from there into Epcot via monorails, will we get bag checked three times? For sure once at CR and once at Epcot. But maybe once at the TTC as well?

Once at Contempo monorail station and again at epcot entrance

I have knee replacements in both knees and set off the metal detectors every time during our 12 day trip in January. After explaining that I had knee implants I was wanded one time and waived thru every other time. Never patted down.

Yea, I can see those being a bigger problem than wine. Who really wants to haul around a bottle of wine anyway? Talk about a PITA
Selfie sticks, bigger potential for use. Thankfully, CM are also more trained to look for, and address, anyone using one. For the most part at least. If one decides to let it go, it's unlikely 2 will

I think people would probably notice if someone was walking down mainstreet drinking straight out of the bottle, but I would definitely pay money to see someone try it! Also, unless you bought a screwtop, I'm not sure who is a carrying around a corkscrew. I wouldn't be unhappy if they just stopped selfie sticks altogether, like at the gates onto property:)

So basically ANYTHING you can purchase at any Monorail Resort can now be brought into the Magic Kingdom simply by saying you are heading back to your room.

Also drives up the desire to stay in monorail resorts.

I have a reservation at the Poly in August and this does not drive up my desire in the least. I don't see the need for me to be searched multiple times as I go to different monorail resorts. The idea of getting searched before I leave the hotel does not appeal to me and going through security twice to get into EPCOT is ridiculous. I am not paying a premium price for a premium amount of searches.
