New Security Measures for MK Guests; UPDATES: Page 12 - Post 222; Live Reports - Pgs. 18-20

My guess is that security will change for monorail to EPCOT very soon if not with this initial change. It seems that Disney will avoid double-checking guests this way. Ensuring guests checked at TTC before boarding and then offloading directly into a secure area at EPCOT shouldn't be too difficult; however, they would have to set up checks at EPCOT for riders to board which would take some work.

You already have to clear security at Epcot to access the monorail entrance. It's one of the things I dislike about parking at Epcot and heading to MK in the morning. It's a pain having to clear security twice. If this is fixed with these changes then great!

Anyone know if the new security measures will still include a "no bag" line ?

When I was at WDW in January, there were only a few days with a select "no bag" line, and more importantly, Security was walking the crowd as each wave of people came (ferry boats, Monorail, the buses, TTC) and re-directing "no-bag" people subtly to the screening area. As you walked up, they sort of divided up the parties - a section for all the strollers and scooters and Extra Wheels, a section for all the family pack mules with mugs and bags and cameras, and the no-bag people.

As long as Security can keep people moving, there shouldn't be too long of a wait to get through. I don't think I timed any of our waits but I don't think they were longer than 10 minutes. What will slow down the process is guests. Ill-informed guests, uncooperative guests, guests who bring extra stuff they don't need, guests who bring contraband, guests who throw a fit about the screening process and "demand" something - a manager, an alternative screening method...

As long as you're travelling light or ultra organized (ziplocs holding everything in your bag), it should be easy. Just try to inform everyone in your party about how easy YOU can make this for Disney! So that everyone can get back to having fun!

How's this affecting the Poly? Lot of backup? Is it intrusive to the theme at all where they put it?

It doesn't appear to have a clear no bag line but these lines should go much quicker than the old ones.

I saw a photo posted this morning on one of the WDW FB groups that I follow that showed the GF security checkpoint with a sign directing those with no bags. Assuming that would be the same at all security entrances.

The photos look promising so far, although it looks like they only have one metal detector at the GF & CR monorail stations so hopefully things don't get backed up there during busy times.

I'm curious to hear how it goes transferring to the Epcot monorail from the resort monorail at TTC. We're staying at BLT this August so that will most likely be our route to Epcot.

Thanks. I didn't realize this. We have entered the monorail at EPCOT but only after exiting the park but I never paid attention that we did not actually exit the secure area.

I'm guessing then that all of internal TTC will be a secure area including arrivals from all monorails so this will help in some ways. It will make sense for Disney to route passengers from the monorail arrival at EPCOT directly into the secured area with no additional checks.

Looks good so far. Interested to see how it goes over the next few weeks.

I see the bag checks away from the park (which I really like). Does this mean no metal detectors at MK, either?

Just so I have this straight to go to Epcot, I am at the Polynesian, I go through security at monorail. Get off monorail at TTC to change monorails and go through security there. Then when I get off at Epcot I go through again?
Also, how does this work with the express transportation option? If I'm at HS and then take it to another park, I'd only have to go through security the once at HS right? Sorry if this has been talked about over and over but I'm trying to get this straight in my head lol.

I think the pictures look great. the only potential downside at the moment to me is possible backups at monorail resorts during busy times.

first scenario correct you would go through 3 bag checks but you can also walk to the TTC, it will be faster, then you go through 2 checks
Express transportation: you get checked at your first park you enter and then don't get checked again since you are going internally from park to park
EDIT TO ADD:
Now that I think about it the TTC check is for people arriving by tram or being dropped off or non Disney bus. So you would have 2 checks, one at the Poly monorail and then at Epcot

Are the people walking over from the contemporary just going through the bus check location?

You can't really walk to the TTC from the other monorail resorts. I refuse to believe that this is true - 3 bag checks to go to Epcot when paying premium $$$ to stay at a monorail resort would be beyond stupid.

I don't see why they would have to screen people coming off the monorail at Epcot, they had to have been screened somewhere else. Also if you are changing trains at the TTC, you should not need to be screened again, you would be in the "secure zone".

I guess I don't see how it is three bag checks to go from Poly to Epcot. Wouldn't you go through security when you get on the monorail at the Poly. Then take that to the TTC to change to the other Monorail - that is behind the security check so no check there. Then now when you get to EPCOT you are past the security there too. So I think it is only one security check. Will be interested to hear what people's experience is today.

How are you past security when you get to Epcot?
