New Security Measures for MK Guests; UPDATES: Page 12 - Post 222; Live Reports - Pgs. 18-20

Thinking about it more while it would be nice to not have everyone jam packed int he same area for security I just don't get the logistics.

How do they know who arrived via each transport? Where will the security screening for buses be located? etc...

They did some construction around the ferry area to make a large plaza so a bus rider has to pass by the new security or you can't get to the entrance. A boat rider has to pass by a separate check point. monorail is yet another walkway so they are getting checked before getting onto the monorail.

The tents are also much larger than what that have right now so it should go faster.

Yes. I think the more people screened before getting to the security area and creating a bottleneck will alleviate crowds, provide for better guest services, and allow security at the parks to have less numbers to deal with which may improve security.

This is to help alleviate those crowds at the security check points.

The more I think about it though the more I like the fact that the whole formality of it is being removed from right in front of the MK which is usually a flurry of activity anyway. You just want to scan your MB and walk in unabated. The scrutiny of security right in front of the park kind of detracts from that "magic" feeling of arriving.

From the first post, it sounds like the screening at the resort monorail stations will be a bag check only, no metal detectors? Does this sound correct?

Wondering if not bringing a bag when just going between resorts for dinner would expedite the security process there.

it'll probably be like what just changed at epoct's international gateway entrance where the bag check and security scanner are together. It's interesting, they check your bag as you empty your pockets and walk through.

Which is similar to how most sporting events operate.

yeah very similar.. same style table, they just further apart and 50% down the table is the metal detector. so you drop of your bag, put your things in the white bowl and meet your bag at the end of the table after you walk through. I didnt' grab a pic but it was really efficient but also a little cluttered to do everything at once. you coulnd't get ready while someone else was getting checked.

That sounds efficient, I guess? My last trip was 2 years ago so I've never experienced any of the metal detectors or different security screenings that they've implemented more recently. We're staying at BLT this summer and have meals planned at both GF and Poly so I'm just trying to picture how the screenings will go.

So do people with no bags go through the same scanner, or is there still a separate "no bags" line? I guess the best thing to do is to make sure you don't have anything in your pockets so all you have to do is put your bag on the table and walk through.

There was times where you might wait a little.. I never had much of a wait, even at rope drop except for hollywood studios.. that one for some reason just takes longer and why those parking hate that the pathway with a bag check was moved and you have to get into the longer lines now.. It was never really bad and it's not like an airport wait. it's more like a buy a turkey leg wait at it's worst.

I didn't pay attention but they've always changed it up so some times everyone is getting metal detectored, some times they aren't. they also got tricky recently where they made it look like everyone got checked so everyone got in line but if they didn't tell you to get in line you could just walk around if you knew that.

I like the idea of getting screened at my monorail resort, then cleared for both MK and Epcot (which I presume will be coming at some point). Staying at the Poly probably loses the convenience of walking to the Epcot monorail, unless that ramp entrance somehow bypasses security.

I doubt it will be for epcot, you have to change loops so it'll probably be a new scan if they move it. epcot has much more room between monorail and entrance.

This will be my dad's first time in the parks since metal detectors started being widely used (he was last there in November 2015). He's been used to just walking on by security theater. He's a pockets guy. He doesn't carry a ton but he has a couple things in his shirt pocket as well as his pants so I guess I'll just tell him to give me his stuff and I'll put it in my bag so he doesn't have to bother taking it out to go through the metal detector.

It does kind of stink, but the monorail will be secure, so that's a plus.

I suspect that is part of the reason for this. That monorail carries a LOT of people, and as it stands now, anyone can get on it without a bit of screening, same goes for the ferry boats. This change will bring both of those into the security theater.

Main Epcot entrance from the parking lot is the same.

Yesterday at Epcot, there was a seperate no bags line. I am not sure if they walked through a detector, I wasn't paying any attention to that line.

We were at AK yesterday and they randomly selected people for metal detectors in morning but at night after going through security everyone had to go through the detector.
