New rumor RFID wrist bands

Nope. Can't post the complete URL from Firefox either.

It sounds like for full function, though, it will need to be linked to a credit card or something, since you can pay for stuff with it.

Hey there guys and gals. Anonymouse here. I have some HUGE gossip today!

Many people who know me know that I am not a tech savvy person. I have to type up my articles and email them to Chimp Chip who is nice enough to post them for me. When I read today’s Gossip I about hit the floor.

Today’s article comes to us from Diz Fanatic where they discuss the evolution of the ‘Keys to the World’. You know your all inclusive Ticket, Meal Plan, Fastpass, Charge Card thing that you use while visiting Walt Disney World.

According to Diz Fanatic Disney will soon be replacing your card with a handy dandy wristband as seen below.

So instead of carrying your card with you everywhere you and your family can strap on your RFID enabled wrist band and swipe your hand when entering the park, checking out merchandise. getting your fastpass, and signing your life over to Mickey Mouse.

According to their site here is how it works:

•Need to get into your awesome Pirates of the Caribbean themed hotel room? Just hold your wristband up to the door.
•At Magic Kingdom gates at 5:30AM for an 8:00 opening? Just hold your wristband to the turnstile (at 8:00 am).
•Mmm, time to buy a yummy cinnamon bun at the Main Street Bakery. Just hold up your wristband to the paystation to pay!
•Oh, hurry, FastPass to meet Mickey Mouse (or Tinkerbell in my case <3 ). Just hold up your wristband to the FastPass kiosk.
•Next? Get that classic photo on Main Street with the castle in the background, and even daddy can get into this photo thanks to PhotoPass. Just hold up your wristband for the photographer to scan. (No more digging in your pocket for that card)
•Love EPCOT?s Kim Possible interactive spy game? Try some new adventures like a Magic Kingdom Pirate Adventure, an Imagineer’s hidden secrets adventure or even? a romantic adventure?? Use your wristband to keep the adventure going.
•Can’t wait to show your jealous friends at home that awesome ride video of you on Big Thunder Mountain? Just hold up your wristband to be sure that it is added to your ‘Enhanced’ PhotoPass account.
I can’t tell you how cool that is even for a technology challenged person like myself. I am sure when Chip reads this he is going to wet himself. He is a NERD ya know

My post in no way has a 1/10th of the information on their website. I suggest heading over to the Dis Fanatic site and reading the full scoop here.

So I want to hear what you think of this new technology? Is this the mark of the beast we have been waiting for? Or is Disney getting RFID happy? Let me know in the comment box below.

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now.

I hope this is just a rumor and doesn't happen. Although I think the technology is neat, this just doesn't appeal to me.

I don't think it's a well thought out idea. Realistically, the wristband would need to be easily removable. Some people come for long periods of time and don't want to be wearing the wristband non-stop for 2 weeks. Other people leave the property to eat, shop and attend other attractions. I wouldn't want to be wearing a Disney wristband on my off day shopping at the outlets or eating at a nice off-propery restaurant. However, if they make the wristbands too easy to remove, you're going to have a huge problem with children taking them off in the middle of the parks and losing them.

Personally, I like that the key cards are slim and flat. They fit perfectly in a wallet, a pocket, a neck lanyard, etc. For people who won't or don't want to wear a plastic wristband, storing it isn't going to be so easy, as it probably won't lay perfectly flat.

Not much different than the bands the kids wear on the cruise lines - I am thinking this is an upgrade - but one that will cost a TON. And guess who pays for that?

What I don't like

(if I understand the concept)

no more fast pass runners.

One wristband = one fast past.
Do I have to drag everyone the fast pass machine?
:sad2:

I hate this idea. We get wristbands for camping at our county fair for the week. I put it on like you are supposed to, securely and permanently on my arm, the first year. By the end of the week I was ready to pull my hair out, this non removable bracelet was driving me i.n.s.a.n.e. Since then, I make it humongous and just place it on my arm for entrance then take it off. Disney's: if it's needed for practically everything, it won't be something that comes on and off easily. I hope this idea doesn't become reality.

It would be great if it was on a flexible wrist band, like the food and wine mini gift cards. Still able to loose it though:scared1:

That is true on the fast passes..each will have to go and get their own. and some will still lose the wrist bands, but can see loss of jobs as well at WDW when and if this comes to play...as PP said this will cost a ton and we all will be paying for it. also when paying for meals will it take all say of a families off one wrist band? or do each have to scan? :confused3

I'm doubting you'd have to actually put the wrist band on your wrist. I suspect it could go through a belt loop. Or even be carried in a pocket only to be pulled out when needed.

Thumbs down from me.

I would hate it if the wrist band was not easily removable. It would bug me all day, and no way could I wear one overnight. I would also be afraid of loosing it if if was put on loosely or an elastic type.

Better idea would be a card with a hole in it to wear like a necklace. Less likely to fall off but easily removed. ( or could still be used as just a card.)

(Also seems like it would be easier for some crook to read it and capture your info?) :confused3

Could someone obtain a reader a be able to pick up all the information stored on the chip? Could some really smart criminals figure how to walk through the park scanning wristbands and walking away with private information?

I doubt that Disney would put any information on the chip except for an ID number tied to your room reservation, etc. And it wouldn't take a smart crook at all to read the chips. You can buy a reader on Ebay.

Having to wear the wrist ba nds could be a real problem for people with sensory issues. I am going to guess they give it to you and you put it where you want using best judgement with the intent that the best place is on the wrist.

This is similar to the Great Wolf Lodge. The wrist bands are your room key and can be used for purchases as well. We put them on loose enough to slide them off but not too loose so they will fall off, we have never lost them yet.

With those scanners they can already do that with the cards that Disney uses now. Scarry I know. :scared1:

In theory I like this idea but actually I think it will be a pain. My son hates to have wrist bands on him!! If we dont need to leave it on the whole time, the second we get into the park I let him take it off. My son had one on him on the WOnder and it was a huge plastic thing that drove him nuts. Hopefully it will be small and flexible. Also as someone else mentioned, everyone who needs a FP will have to go stand in line at the kiosk. What a traffic jam. I can just hear the issues now that people just 'walked by a register and got charged for items!' What IF you loose it? Does that mean anybody can pick it up and start charging? It would need to be removable or give people the choice between this new wrist bad and the good normal KTTW card.
