New Roaring Forks food vs. Beach Club Marketplace?

We didn't think we would be returning to WDW this year but we just went ahead and made plans for a trip this June! :cool1: We were able to get 5 nights in a 1BR at VWL using points and 1 night using cash with DVC discount. This will be our first stay at VWL so we're super excited. I've read very mixed reviews of Roaring Forks before the menu change. How is the food there now? We loved the Beach Club Marketplace during our December trip, and we ended up eating more meals from there than we had anticipated -- great custom made salads, yummy sandwiches and awesome gelatos. Could someone who has tried both the new Roaring Forks menu and the Beach Club Marketplace food give me an idea re the quality of the Roaring Forks sandwiches, burgers and salads? If no one has tried both, how about a review from someone who has tried the new Roaring Forks menu? The only review of the new menu I was able to find on the Dis Restaurant Board was very lackluster. I'm trying to figure out how often we can plan to eat at Roaring Forks vs. alternatives. We are likely going to get the Dining Plan so it would be a convenient CS (and snacks) place if we just feel like hanging out at the resort.

I was there April 30th for breakfast and Roaring Forks was slower than molasses in January. The service was TERRIBLE compared to service before the remodel. It took forever for the hot breakfasts to be put together once they were ordered. I only ate there one morning of our trip. The time that was wasted waiting in line wasn't worth it to me.

I used to hate Roaring Forks, and I really hoped it would have improved after the revamp :sad2: I think someone posted a photo of the revamped Roaring Forks somewhere on here (sorry don't have the link), and it didn't seem to look much different than it did before.

The main thing I didn't like was that there were always tons of flies behind the glass bit where they kept the pastries and stuff - yuk.

:( Bummer hearing your replies. And flies near food always grosses me out!

We were at RF recently and I was disappointed. I thought it would be a tremendous improvement or change, but I really did not see much of a difference. Food was OK and seating is the same. We really enjoy BC Marketplace.

I agree, we where there last week didn't seem much different to us either.

Our family stayed at VWL last week, and we ate at Roaring Forks twice. I have to agree with previous poster about the breakfast crowds. It was crazy there in the morning!!! However, we had no problem grabbing a quick bite at RF for an early dinner one night. The roast beef with blue cheese on foccacia sandwich was really yummy-- one of the best sandwiches I've had at WDW!

Hope you have a great stay. :)

OMG! Something positive finally! Glad to hear. (Too bad I dislike blue cheese. ;) )

We aren't fans of RF either. We stayed at VWL for 2 nights in December and ate there for the second, and probably last, time. I am so disappointed to hear their remodel provided no improvement. We really enjoyed making breakfast in the villa each morning - bacon and eggs, etc.. tho I know some people would rather die than cook on vacation. ;) Other than RF, we love VWL, though! Especially beautiful in December! And we are going back for 4 nights this DEcember as well. :cool1:

The food was actually some of the best we had for coutner service. We resort hopped for 8 days last Easter. 3@AKL/2@BCV/3@VWL.

Roaring Fork Sandwiches and salads all excellent and fresh.

The problem there is with the flow of people. There isn't much instruction or guidance as far as flow goes and you have polite people standing around not wanting to cut in front of anybody. Then 1 long line forms and you have 2 cash registers going. You do not see the sign that says " please form 2 lines" It took about 1 1/2 days for me to figure it out after I saw people cutting to the unused cash register that there was a small sign.

You have the same problem at the drinks and dessert cooler. You have a long line of people waiting for fresh salads and sandwiches backing up infront of the drinks cooler. Very unorganized with poor customer flow design.

I never saw the remodel so have no previous experiences to base it on.

Good lunch food, frustrating to get it to the table.

YO

FYI:
AKL: Mara's pizza was hideous, Jiko's was excellent. Halibut and scallops Mmmm

BCV: Hurricane Hanna's burger OK Beaches and Cream burgers were better

Character DIning: Chef Mickey's BUffet at CR good, Liberty Tree OK

Park DIning: Forgot the name but the BBQ place in Animal Kingdom was good
Epcot and dining plan do the Living sea. A ton of great seafood for a sit down dinner.

If they still have it, the apple cin. oatmeal at Roaring Forks is awesome. We've never had any problem eating there, but we don't have kids and are rarely in a hurry to get anywhere while at WDW.

We will be there on Saturday. I can check it out and report back.

As long as they have chili, I'll be happy.

I've heard great things about the marketplace and wish they would have done something more along those lines at WL.

I hope the service is moving along. We are going for the Florida Half Ironman and they usually do a special pasta meal the night before and then open early the morning of the race.

I'll let you know.

Nope, not crazy about RF. I haven't been to BC's Marketplace yet since the refurb.

We just returned from WL.

I like the old RF better. The food was made after you ordered it (usually.)

Now, you walk in and get a cheeseburger that could have been sitting there for an hour.

The new salads are good and the new sandwiches. DH wanted a plain turkey sandwich on normal bread before his race and they only had pre-made fancy sandwiches on foccacia (sp?) bread. He misses the ones you used to be able to grab out of the case.

No more daily specials.

They do still have chili.

We went to WL for the Ironman at FW and thought RF would offer a pasta dish the night before but they didn't. :confused3 They have in years past.

He ended up getting a bowl of pasta from room service and it only cost $30 :teeth:
