New Road Into WDW - Western Way?

I read in the last allearsnet newsletter about a new road into Disney. We are driving from the south on the turnpike and always get off on the Osceola Parkway exit. If you stay on the Osceola it basically ends at the Animal Kingdom resort. Where exactly is the Western Way exit - north or south of Osceola? Is it a better way in than on the Osceola?

From allearsnet:
"Western Way, the $50 million private roadway built by Walt Disney World to connect Interstate 75 and Florida's Turnpike corridor to Disney, will open April 4. The new road will connect with an interchange on S.R. 429 north of U.S. 192. Western Way will then continue for several miles, connecting with West Buena Vista Road, near Blizzard Beach and Disney's Animal Kingdom."

Coming up Florida's Turnpike from the south, Osceola is probably still the best bet. You could also use 417 which is a slightly longer distance but fewer traffic lights.

Western way is of no use to you because you are actually coming from the east.

Western Way enters WDW eastbound, curves around Animal Kingdom and heads south. If you were coming in on Western Way you would turn right (southwest) on Buena Vista and about half a mile later is the Osceola Parkway interchange.

That's where they're doing all the road work by Coranado Springs, isn't it? (Where the WW is going to end..)

Western Way is indeed teh exit off 429 that comes uot by Corondao Springs. AT this point it's of no use to anyone traveling on the Turnpike NORTHBOUND, as you'd be going 20+ miles out of your way to use it. In fact it's probably never going to be useful for people traveling Northbound on the TPKE now that I think about it.

Here's where it's useful. If you are coming down I-75 to the TPKE, you no longer have to get off onto 27 (although this is still a viable route if you want to stop for groceries) or keep going to I-4. Now you can get off teh tpke onto 429, take a new road with little traffic about ten minutes, and get off onto Western Way. (I work right next to 429, and this is going to be fabulous for me to get to WDW after work!)

Western Way is sccheduled to open on 4/4.

If you are traveling to WDW on I-95, this won't do you any good.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....don't be telling people about the newly extended 429! ;) It's the only time I enjoy driving on the toll roads! There's NOBODY on it and it's nothing to get from Winter Garden to Celebration now! :cool1:

Sooo....

Coming from Clermont, down the 27, east on the 192, then a quick exit onto the WW, exit off at Blizzard Beach et al, eliminates the need to use Sherberth Road??

Does this save any time? If the road is going the way I'm imagining..
(Although this past Pres Week traffic on the 192 was incredible...it took 20 minutes to get from OLCC to AK)
I'm thinking that alone would be worthwhile:):)

No. Coming from Clermont your route will be the same. Western way leads from 429 to basically Coronado Springs. I suppose you could take 27 to 192 to 429 to Western Way, but I don't think you'll save a lot of time--especially if you don't have SUNPASS, as 429 is a toll road.

429 and 27 basically run parallel to each other.

Can I ask for help, too? I will be coming from the Boca Raton to WDW via the turnpike and was just looking at maps to find the best route. Should I still get off at the Osceola Parkway exit of the turnpike since we will be staying at the CSR? Will I need to look for signs at the off-ramp for AK resorts or for the CSR itself? :confused3

Thanks for any help! :)

Take exit 249 off the turnpike onto the Osceola Parkway, you wo'nt see signs at teh turnpike offramp for the resorts, you're still the better part of ten miles from WDW. Just stay on the Osceola Parkway all the way to WDW. Once inside the gates, head towards the AK, as you get closer you'll see teh signs for the CSR.

Here is a map of the new road.
