I just got this from the travel agent website.

Effective March 10, 2008, CRO will begin collecting one night’s room and hotel tax as a deposit at the time a new reservation is made &
CRO will retain one night’s room and hotel tax for reservations cancelled 0-4 days prior to day of arrival.

I'm not happy about this change, but understand it will help prevent some people booking knowing they will most likely cancel later.

What was the policy previously? No deposit? I can't remember.

This is in line with how WDW has done their bookings for years. I assume they've had to deal with too many cancelled reservations and then the rooms sit empty.

I don't see it as a big deal. I think a deposit should always be required. Keeps people honest.

Its for room only reservations. The vast majority of hotels require only a credit card to hold the room, not a deposit. Packages have always had deposit requirements, but not the room only.
