Interesting to see how this technology will work. It sounds like instead of the barcode like at the water parks with will utilize a RFID.

It's got a lot of gulpers, split stayers and drink mixers arguing.

I'm surprised they don't do similar to the scanning system at Blizzard Beach with their all day mugs. They should be able to just make the mugs scannable for the length of stay at particular resorts.

I wonder if enough people cheat the system that its worth all the implementation money.

The article talked about a 5 year contract between Coke and the provider of the technology (I'm not accurate in describing that).
Anyway, it may not cost Disney very much to implement, as Coke may just switch out the machines as part of their contract. So the Chip in the mugs would probably be minimal cost.
The thing is though, Disney tries many different things, and then scraps many of them. (I really liked the counter breakfast they had at Beaches & Cream in May 2009. I think they only ran that about 6 weeks!)
It will be interesting to see how this goes.
But if the machine really does have a 5 minute lock between dispensing, there may be "a whole lota hollerin' going on".

1) They still need to figure how to handle "Forever Mugs".
2) Ours were bought pre-2001.
3) They were marketed as good forever.
4) We have used them every trip since 2000 without difficulty.

I'm sorry but to have to wait 5mins in between refills is just stupid im sorry what if my son spilt my drink and wanted t refill it I'd have to wait 5 minutes to refill it no way in he!! I'd wait!!

We just experience this technology on Royal Caribbean in May, only there wasn't a 5 minute wait period between fills. Should be interesting to see what happens

I'm sorry but to have to wait 5mins in between refills is just stupid im sorry what if my son spilt my drink and wanted t refill it I'd have to wait 5 minutes to refill it no way in he!! I'd wait!!

Its to prevent a family of 6 from just getting one mug and transferring it to another cup and immediately refilling.

We are staying 3 nights at AKL followed by 4 at Contemporary. Wonder how this works with a split stay. I know that they are only good for the resort you purchase at but really I think it should be good for your length of stay.

Another thing about this 5 minute wait. Many times I have gotten a soda and it was terrible so you have to dump it in the sink and get a new one. ie did not realize in May that the lemonade was pomogranite lemonade. Other times the syrup mix was not right so had to dump soda out and get a different kind or go over to another machine. I will say though that it has bothered me when you buy a mug and you see other people going up with all kinds of containers and get soda tea etc. I have gone a few times in a year and usually by the mug each time I have so many at home it is rediculous would be nice if you could use it everywhere like other parks do but than carrying a lot of mugs around is a pain also. That is why I usually get a throw away cup for my hot tea on the way to parks.

These two issues were brought up in the other huge thread not sure about the outcome but the first one started some heated discussions.

The four main "well how is it going to work for x" issues are the two mentioned above


Gulpers, fill cup, chug it down, refill cup, lather rinse repeat.

and the suicide pour (that's the manufacture of the machines term) mixing multiple drinks.

Well it would take you most of the 5 minutes or more to clean up the mess your son made.
