Hello,

We were kind of warned not to buy a time share. The lawyer who "cautioned" us said he has clients who want to unload their time share and have difficulty with this.

He was not referring to Disney Vacation Club.

I think the value of DVC is great and one would not have a hard time and especially with the company on this site that does buy them back.

But it got us to thinking, has anyone ever been in this type of predicament, where they needed to sell back their DVC and have not been able to.

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks

I can't believe an owner would have a hard time selling his/her DVC contract in today's environment. Not all resorts necessarily fetch the same price, but all are selling. That may or my not be true in the future - no crystal ball here.

That said, at some point DVC will lose value. It is deeded interest in a lease. It ends in either 2042 or 2054, depending on the resort.

Best wishes -

I have interest in both DVC (SSR) and Vistana Resort (off property). I have investigated your question and found that DVC is very popular right now. In today's market you would be able to get almost your entire point value amount back if you sold your DVC points. Just as the previous poster said you can also use your points each year and save on your vacations through the years. However, that could all change if timeshare market conditions change. Even so, you will still get your vacation value out of DVC each year.

As for Vistana Resort I have found the resale value to be very lack-luster. In fact, when I investigated selling it the price I would have received did not justify me selling it. It made more sense to hold on to it. I purchased a 1 Bedroom floating week in the Cascades in 1996 for 7,100. Today, if I tried to sell it I would stand to only get $3100 for the sale. Not really worth it to me. I would rather keep the week and visit WDW again! :)

So the moral of the story. DVC is hot right now as far as resale. Most others that are off property are not so hot. Take it for what it's worth. :rolleyes1

Although the board sponsor is in fact a resale company, it's not really accurate to say that they will "buy back" your contract. They will certainly market it for you and assist in the sale, but they are not buying them back. If you get an offer, Disney might buy it back if it is in their best interest to do so, but they won't exercise their right of first refusal until you submit a firm offer to purchase.

DVC is wonderful and I love it, but once you buy it's yours until YOU sell it!!

Who knows what'll happpen in the future, but my points are selling for $10-15 above what I paid last year and I've taken two vacations with them! Know it can't keep up forever, but I'm happy now! :flower:

I recently sold 25 points, and they sold the first day I listed them, for the full asking price. So I have no fear of being "stuck" with our points.
