My project for the winter was going to be stripping wallpaper from the upstairs bathroom, repainting the bedrooms, etc. in that order. We moved into this house 23 years ago and it was "used" at the time. The bifold, 6 panel closet doors were too heavy for the hardware, and as a result, fell over, and "dinged" a couple of times. Not only for us but the previous owners. Rehanging them with steel hardware instead of aluminum will solve the problem, according to my painter/carpenter. In the meantime, there are too many dings and they don't look so good anymore. I wasn't in the mood to replace 12 six panel doors on closets, ($$$), so I looked at the other side. The other side of all of the doors are perfect and just needs to be sanded a bit more and refinished. Taken apart, the hinges removed and turned inside out will work perfectly. That is the beginning of my new project. I have sanded and stripped the edges of 6 doors and done a finishing sanding, and then I broke the avocado green sander, so we know how old that thing is. DH just left to go to Home Depot to buy me another one. By Tuesday I should be all set to stain, and the finish coats should be done by the weekend. Then I will have to lightly sand the rest of the woodwork and do a little touch up. When DS#4 leaves for college, then I will do the ceiling, the walls and move on to the other bedrooms. The carpeting is also more than 20 years old, so that goes too. I am thinking that the carpet should go in before the closet doors get rehung. I am going to have some one do it and replace the hardware. THEN, I will get around to the bathroom.
