I heard they put a new drop on POTC. I hate drops :scared: but the old one was never too bad to me. Can anyone confirm this? and if there is another drop, how big is it? :confused3 thanks

Went on it on Sat...no new drop. It gets really dark before the first drop...seems like there should be scary music or something else there to allude to the ride, but there is not.

Jack sparrow is good and movie music is good, but there is nothing to bug and wonderful about new changes.

thanks for the replys, i appreciate them. i am glad they didn't chhange it too much since it was always one of my favorites, but i do love jack sparrow

Think about this.

In order for there to be a new, say, 20 foot drop, they would:

A) Have to tear out and excavate down another 20 feet, and rebuild from scratch, the entire Caribbean town level (the bulk of the ride).

-OR-

B) Have to tear down, then rebuild (20 feet HIGHER UP) from scratch, the entire loading area of the attraction. And that would mean a bizarre queue area that had you going UP (at least 10 feet) to board the boats (which they DO, outside the attraction at Disneyland).

But, I don't think they'll be adding any more "drops" to the WDW PoC very soon.

;)

I think you might be confusing WDW's POTC with Disneyland's. Disneyland's has two drops, both of which are just a little bit bigger then WDW's.

The 1st drop on the Disneyland version is significantly longer more than twice as long and its not being there in the MK version is one of the most dissapointing things about it for those used to the superior Disneyland version.

These are aprox. but I believe it breaks down as:

1st DL drop: 28 ft.
2nd DL drop: 14 ft.

MK drop: 13 ft.

Other Comparisons:

Maelstrom drop: 10 ft.
Splash Mountain drop: 48 ft.

The main reason for the difference is due to Florida's low sea level they could not dig the ride as deep as it would need to match the DL version.

WOW! thanks for all the information! I never went on Maelstrom but now I know i can make it! lol thank you!!!!

Haha Could of fooled us! Last november we had a full boat on our ride. There was three in my group and they gave us the very front row. I dont know if the physics were just right or what... but.. *Kungaloooosh* we were drenched at the bottom of that drop! haha.. I was more wet from that drop then from sitting on the front row of Spalsh Mountain. Hahaha. It was my sisters first time on POTC. After we get drenched my sister goes "why didn't you warn me?" and I hear a lady from behind ... "I've never gotten wet on this ride let alone soaked" HAHA. It took me by suprise. My lap, my frontside, my bum in the seat and my hair was wet. haha, pretty intense it was!

Definately no new big drop.
We did think the timing was different though. Like more of a pause before you go down. You'll be fine.

No new drop .

But what a wonderful ride it is. The editions are just great.

Better duck during the Battle....your hat might get blown off.

This is one of those "often-told tales" that becomes "true" thru repetition.

The reason MK's Pirates does not have two significant "drops" is that they simply aren't NECESSARY.

In the original PoC in DL, they had to fit the Pirates Loading/Unloading and initial "float trip" on the river, next to the Blue Bayou restaurant, into a small space INSIDE the Disneyland Berm (the raised hill that the Railroad tracks sit on).
And then, get the boats DOWN and UNDER that berm, and out to the other side of the berm to the ride building which was sitting in what used to be a section of the DL parking lot.

In Florida, they don't have the restaurant (pity) and they designed the load and unload areas differently than DL. So they just don't NEED all of that change in HEIGHT to get the boats to the ride building.

So, Florida may have a different water table than CA... but that's not the principal reason to redesign Pirates.

Does anyone know if they did anything to make it more handicapped accessible?
