new pirates boring

why do people prefer J. Depp to Blaine Gibson, Gore Verb. to Walt
The movie is supposed to be based on the attraction, and now the attraction is based on the movie

I don't think that's true at all. I haven't been to WDW since they updated the ride, but I've seen the video and it doesn't seem like they've changed much. If you ask me, the PoTC movies paid respect to the ride (with the song in the first movie, and in the 2nd, the dog, the bayou, etc). I think it's a perfect balance. The ride remains the same except for the addition of Captain Barbosa and Captain Jack Sparrow, with a cool effect of Davey Jones. I think Captain Jack Sparrow will be a memorable character for years to come. He is, after all, played by Johnny Depp.

Pirates has always been a favorite attraction in our family (it was the only "thrill" ride my Gram used to ride with us when we vacationed to Disney every summer...trust me, that little dip is quite a thrill for an 85 year old!), and I was excited about the changes. My mom and sisters haven't seen the movie, so they're not Captain Jack aficionados like I am, but I can assure you - they were not disappointed in the changes. In fact, except for the Davy Jones effect, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have realized anything was different if I hadn't told them.

Just my two cents, but I believe that the mark of true improvements is when you can't tell that anything is different, but you enjoy your experience all the same. That's how I feel about PoTC for folks who aren't familiar with the movies. The song is still there, the classic scenes are still there, the storyline (such as it is) is still there...the parrot in the plaza has retired (possibly to the Tiki Room?) but trust me, you won't be disappointed. This was a good change, like adding the 5th Dimension to the ToT.

(PS - Robo, your posts are hysterical...I can't tell you how many times I start reading without realizing you wrote the post and take it seriously for like half a second! And then the follow up posts from people who miss your intent completely.... :lmao: )

OK, no one hurt me but I've never seen either Pirates movies, don't plan on it either, not my cup og tea.

You might be surprised if you rent the first one and this is coming from someone who generally yawns during summer "blockbuster" movies. It's a lot of fun.

Why, THANK you!

Wow... I guess I'm one of the only people who thinks the POTC is one of the most outdated rides in all of Disney. I go every year just for nostalgia sake, but I always say the same thing... this ride needs a COMPLETE overhaul. The animatronics stink and the ride, overall, is fairly boring.

I understand the nostalgia and all (hence the reason I still go on the ride)... but it could be SO much better.
