Hi. Picked up some new pins lately, in plastic bags with backer boards. Is it better to keep them this way or is the packaging of no value and should be thrown away?

Thanks!

I would recommend keeping the pins in the plastic baggies on the cards. If pins are kept on their original cards and/or packaging, they are more desirable to collectors than if the cards/packaging have been thrown away. Also the plastic will help to keep the pins from getting scratched during storage.

I think it depends on what you mean by better...as the PP said, collectors will want pins that are unopened (so on original backing, in original cellophane wrap, with price tag, etc.). I generally think that very few pin sets will appreciate in value in any meaningful way. Some of the limited editions (special events, specific event, etc.) are more likely to appreciate, but even then not by a lot.

I leave some pin sets on their backing (if the backing is cute) and I take others out to put in a collage to display. I don't collect to make money, so I don't mind taking them out of the packaging.
