New perk for DVC members

Dear Disney Vacation Club Member, As you begin planning your visit to “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in honor of Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary, we wanted to make sure you’d heard the exciting news that starting October 1st you will be eligible for special theme park access when staying at Walt Disney World Resort because you are a Member. Members and Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and Disney Vacation Club Villas, as well as other select hotels, will have a new early theme park entry benefit giving them the first chance to enjoy select attractions at EVERY theme park, EVERY day, with a valid ticket or pass and a theme park reservation for that theme park and date. Additionally, Members and Guests staying at a Disney Vacation Club Resort or Disney Deluxe Resort hotel will exclusively be able to enjoy extended evening hours on select nights in select theme parks providing more time to enjoy the Magic. Extended evening hours will begin in early October with specific dates and parks to be shared at a later time, so please be sure to check back on DisneyWorld.com for the latest. Throughout the celebration, Disney Vacation Club Resorts at the Walt Disney World Resort will offer even more with surprise appearances by some favorite Disney pals like Goofy and Pluto, who will be dressed in their EARidescent best. This is not a DVC perk. It's about the Evening Extended Hours announced last week. This announcement is trying to make clear that DVC resorts are included as Deluxe resorts. Note that the announcement states (emphasis added) "Members and Guests STAYING AT...." are eligible. This means that just having a DVC member card, no matter what color, doesn't get you in. You have to be staying at a Disney Deluxe or Deluxe Villa (DVC) resort. If you're staying offsite or at a value or moderate, you're not eligible to attend.

I had seen the after hours for Deluxe resort guest but I had not seen the early hours until this email. I have not stayed at a value or moderate but it is not worded that way in the first paragraph.

That benefit extends to anyone staying at a Disney resort plus select offsite resorts. It has nothing to do with being a DVC member. But I can see how the DVC powers that be are trying to spin it that way.

What is happening is that WDW is bringing back early entry hours and extra evening park hours that used to apply generally to those staying on site, except that it is now excluding value and moderate resorts from the evening extra hours.

I question that decision to actually exclude the evening extensions for a group of those staying on site. The sales pitch and expectation in the past has been that all staying on site would get the extra park hour benefits. Now Disney is just broadcasting to its value and moderate quests that it thinks less of them and they are like the off-site quests, but still likely paying more for their room. Disney's thought process may be to try to get more to stay in the deluxe resorts but the result could instead be a decrease in moderate and value reservations.
